Op Deny Christmas
Hit the streets today in my location. About on time, although 4 pm on the 24th is "de rigueur". Still a slight hope I may get out of it (being OIC Deny Christmas last year).
Anyone else get an early present ?!??!

Champagne anyone...?
Come on kids, Op Deny Christmas is basic stuff.....
Op Deny Christmas
•noun, informal, Mil. UK - RAF
Any unforseen (by the recipient), short notice event that involves denying an individual time at home over the Christmas period. Usually the result of poor planning by senior staff, aircraft unserviceabilities downroute or crews getting lashed up on det and being sent home (this would, of course, never happen. Ed.)
90% of Op Deny Christmas events are generally known about up to a month in advance by HQ personnel however RAF policy dictates they may not be acted upon until on or after 22 Dec. This ensures the senior officers who formulated the plans are on leave themselves and the breaking of the bad news can be left to junior ops and/or sqn staff.
The notice given to the individual(s) concerned is inversely proportional to the level of disruption to existing domestic Christmas leave plans.

Sorry to report I had to give a huge bollocking to the bloke in my local garage a couple of weeks ago when he asked me if I was all ready for Christmas. Told him I had never heard such a girly question in a garage before, and made it plain that FFP's estimate of 1600 on the 24th was about the earliest time I wanted to acknowledge that it was Christmas. Have to admit I bought Mrs TTN's card yesterday, but still not sure about a present.

Quite right too, Tankertrashnav!
When I become dictator, Christmas will only be permitted from 1700 on 24 Dec until 2359 on 26 Dec.
I applaud the actions of some university students who kidnapped the festive decorations from some shopping centre one year in late October and told the management that they were being stored safely....and would be returned at 0800 on 24 Dec.....
Looking forward to The Grumpy Guide to Christmas tonight on BBC2 at 2100!
Bah, humbug!!
By the way, whatever became of the Incirlik Elves....???
For Mrs TTN, perhaps a small bottle of sherry? You wouldn't want her getting too sozzled to do the washing up on the 25th, would you.

How many times do I have to say it?
DON'T REACT TO THE TROLL - JUST REPORT THE POST!
Well done BEagle - not so well done others.
For those confused by this post - I deleted some.

I don't own this space under my name. I should have leased it while I still could
I still remember with pleasure the feast of the passover on New Year's eve 1965 when the staish, as was the system in those days, read out the promo list on the stroke of midnight.
There followed a short period while someone was despatched to bring the lucky man to the ball room. He arrived in wolly dressing gown, issue blue/white stripped wyncette PJs, and carpet slippers to be told he was promoted. And of course his posting followed the following day.
How soft we have got with extended time off for both Christmas AND New Year. In those days NY was a working day and any Jocks had to take leave for Hogmanay.
And we had diptheria, rickets and iron lungs, thank **** time has marched on......

Well, it is Christmas Eve, and I have been 'summoned' at very short notice to crew a long-haul jet to Paris and back, with the intent of 'rescuing' the delayed and stranded passengers who have found themselves on the wrong side of the Channel. And I'm not even on reserve - that'll teach me to be a bit more circumspect about answering the phone. And I ain't in the RAF anymore, either!
Now I'll have to join the AA's predicted 12 million drivers on the road today. Bugger. Not what I wanted. I wonder if I'll get home before Christmas morning .........
Where does one vote for Kim Yong BEagle to become Supreme Leader ........ oh, sorry, I forgot ...... we don't vote in a dictatorship.
Merry Chrimbo to one and all, wherever you are ...... and that includes you to BEags! Have a good one!

Gentleman Aviator
oh, sorry, I forgot ...... we don't vote in a dictatorship.
One man, one vote ..................once!
BEags would get my vote too, but as a mere Grammar School Oik I'm not sure I'd be enfranchised in his regime ........
I was born and raised in Africa, as it happens! I left because post-democracy (hmmm, not really democratic .....) it quickly turned into a steaming pile of the crap that is symptomatic of the Dark Continent ills - incompetence, nepotism, thuggery, racism, et-bloody-cetera.
But I'm sure Santa will be visiting them all, both deserving and undeserving.
(Sorry for the thread creep ..... or is that a complete, full on, thread skid?)

@Wholi
With tongue firmly in my cheek (or not .....) it seems that the vast majority, if not all, of the troll inputs are as an immediate response to one or other of BEag's posts on the mil pages. If BEag's were to be locked out of the Mil forum then surely the trolling problem would go away.
Simples!
DON'T REACT TO THE TROLL

Mr Bernouilli, you will be my Minister of Immigration.....
Presumably there'll be some reasoanble compensation for your trip to Paris - so not quite like the RAF.....?

@StopStart:
I love the definition of Op. Deny Christmas! Being former military myself, I can remember that happening on a regular biases, I just didn't realize there was an organized mission in place supporting it!
Thanks for the smiles; I hope you get home in time to be with the family!

Mr Bernouilli:
Yes, you always have to watch caller ID closely this time of year; you never know what strange requests will pop up (professional or extended family!)
I hope you get home in time to be with the family; merry Christmas!
