OASC 'CANDIDATES' and WANNABES, PLEASE READ THIS THREAD FIRST!
I suggest you first make up your mind which one you want to be, Pilot , WSO or ATC!!
I still remember filling in the form at Biggin with Pilot, Pilot, Pilot!! Just to make sure they knew what I wanted!

Attention pprune moderators
Bah humbug and all that. Can we please generate a stciky military wannabe thread for all those continual how, what questions and for those wishing to publicise their thanks and successful selection etc, etc.
Although I think that ppruners have a lot to offer, the continuous smattering of wannabe threads does start to grip.
Merry Christmas, HS.

OASC
Just yesterday I received a letter congratulating me for success at OASC and offering me a place at IOT.
The most important thing when you are there is not to let things get to you. I thought I had failed the aptitudes but I had actually passed them well, then I thought I'd failed the medical, but I scraped through. Finally I only received a 'weak recommendation' but managed to survive the sift.
My point is, if things seem difficult do not let your head drop, I am sure that the staff noticed this in me and it certainly didn't do me any favours.
Keep upbeat and happy throughout and take plenty of chocolate with you, its a savour during the 7 hours of aptitude testing that pilots have to complete!
Good luck.
P.S. If anybody reads this who has helped me with my questions regarding OASC in the past, thank you kindly for your help.

Dear Shemy,
I'll sponsor you (for the right price )
Shall we say £300 and I'll give OASC a nod and a wink that you are on the way up for selection ?
Let's keep it secret and between us though......

I think he may be having a go at the grammar, puncuation & context of your sentence.
Get your head down our kid, work hard & get yourself through A levels & into a university. Approach the AFCO for an application for sponsorship at 6th form.
Good luck Shemy, you seem to have occupied yourself well with worthwhile activities & that's great to see!
Work on your typing, grammar and punctuation fella, they're shokcing!

To help, the link in Mike J's post refers to the Sixth Form Scholarship Scheme. There is no location for one individual "Sixth Form College" down South or anywhere else. Speak to your school Careers Officer (or whatever they are titled these days!) and they will point you in the right direction. Not to mention your CO at your ATC unit.
Good luck.

Shemy,
I'm not RAF, never have been, but I did have an Army Sixth Form Scholarship. The RAF scheme is pretty much identical, in that you are selected, aged 15 and a bit for entry to officer training in the RAF or Army (or Navy for that matter) on completion of your A levels, and are "sponsored" through that phase of your education.
The Army is slightly different, in that it has its own Sixth Form college, Welbeck, in Nottinghamshire. Whether that is "down south" or not is entirely dependant on one's perspective. The entirety of the UK is "up north" from where I live, but from RAF Kinloss, pretty much everywhere is "down south".
Cranfield is a university a tad north of London. I suspect however, you are referring to the RAF College, a RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire. Again, north or south is dependant on perspective, but it is not a Sixth Form college.
As has been mentioned, your English is not up to scratch. Even if you pass the selection board, you will not pass your A levels at this rate. If you scrape your A levels, you'll falter in officer training, if you cannot accurately express your views, let alone construct a written order.
Time is on your side, so head down, find the shift key, learn to use it, and good luck in your career.

Shemy at the risk of trying to speak for others here, i believe it may have been "a bit of banter" as the phrase goes.....
There is plenty of info you can get on the RAF out there on the web, and as said above your local AFCO will prove to be a good hunting ground for extra gen! I am currently in my second year of sixth form (year 13) and i recieved a 6th form scholarship after i went down to OASC last year.
I would go to your local AFCO to get some literature to read up on, Also your ATC squadron may have an RAF careers pack which may prove useful.

Shemy,
Mike was right - just a bit of banter old bean, but I guess that's all to come for you!!!
Another suggestion that noone's mentioned yet is a visit to the University Air Squadron (UAS). Your location says you're from Manchester and I was on MASUAS for 3 years. Whilst not exactly representative of the full-time RAF, they will at least give you some idea of what goes on and the right channels to go through. Of course, as has already been suggested, the Careers Info people are the best-placed as your starter for ten. For the MASUAS, try the following link for contact info.
http://www.masuas.co.uk/
Don't take this the wrong way, but first impressions count for an ENORMOUS amount. Even when we write correspondence, we get a comrade to check it over first for spelling mistakes, punctuation etc etc, so when you write to someone, try and run it past someone else first (even if it's your teacher).
All the best fella,
Olly.

It's all part of their so called 'Proffesional' approach - Like the Halifax Bank for example = what a set of they are!
And just for the record 'Nice' is the reason why I do not post on 'Proffesional' Pilot Training anymore, Thanks to a certain Moderator!!
I agree, You are only 15 and It could have being said in a 'Nicer' way?
All Best Wishes.

To be fair the new snazzily rebuilt Welbeck (or Defence 6th Form College) is now tri-service: but you will be labelled for ever as a "Welbexian"
Don't forget shemy that you're an officer first and pilot second.
Get some GCSE and seriously consider other career paths at the same time to avoid disappointment.

There's a very good OASC prep website, www.oascprep.co.uk, and in my experience, most stations are happy to host visitors for a day to see what goes on (provided they can spare the time. I'd suggest somewhere quiet like a training base, not a front line FJ station.) You should WRITE to the Corporate Comms Officer (CCO) at the station you wish to visit.
One further piece of advice; do not focus on the end result exculsively. You will have to get through flying training first, and OASC will want to see that you understand what that involves. So, research each and every step of the way thoeoughly and you'll be able to demonstrate real enthusiasm and commitment.
Best of luck,
Blunty
(And get ready for some heavier banter if you do get in, princess )

Many people have been in your shoes and therefore I would take the advice of those sensible posts on here and do some research. If you come across as a whinger from the beginning you won't get very far.
All that said, I am sure the majority of people wish you the best of luck with your endeavours. God knows we need to keep bringing new blood in!
