Nimrod MRA.4
For the UK, the people at Kinloss and the safety of the UK that has to be the saddest picture that I have had to look at.....Especially all the crews and that includes the groundcrew and the support people. The final piece of the jigsaw is finally in place. I salute you all and wish you luck in whatever the next few years bring. I for one had a wonderful time flying the MR1 and MR2 the crews were exceptional and I would not have traded the experience for anything. My first tour as an Air Engineer taught me heaps that kept me in good stead for the rest of my flying career. Good luck guys will be thinking of you all over the comimg months.

I'm surprised there haven't been more replies on this. The picture in the link posted by mancowboy is absolutely sickening. They have erected a tarpaulin screen around the area where the mighty hunters will be slaughtered. It's a recognition that what they're doing is wrong. It reminds me of Japanese whaling, trying to keep to keep the butchering out of sight. Scrapping the programme is one thing (and, unfortunately, many fair minded members will have to accept the logic in light of New Labour budget deficit and BWOS programme mismanagement) but cutting up the frames a la TSR2 is in my view criminal beyond belief. They should have been stored and preserved.

Good news there is a replacement available, check out this current companies website,
Nimrod MRA4 - BAE Systems
they go by the name of BAe and they are STILL plugging the MRA.4 And I quote from their website TODAY
See, it is all a bad dream or they are in denial.
Here is Nimrod the movie
YouTube - Nimrods scrapped
What is a real shame is despite the AEW fiasco and this, the aircraft served the country well for many a year, but alas will end up being remembered for this, a fate it never deserved.
Odd isn't it when our contracts seem to get so protracted, the Japanese can go it alone and produce the likes of this

All nine production aircraft are in build and are on target against an incentivised programme.

Nine Nimrod MRA4 aircraft are to be dismantled - behind tarpaulins and screens designed to keep their controversial end out of sight.

One of the saddest days of my life, I fail to believe that I actually voted Conservative!
Farewell to a truly remarkable aircraft which provided me with over 20 years of terrific fun & job satisfaction.

I suppose under the FOI act what they are doing is in fact illegal, as owners of these aircraft the British public have the right to see the dismantling/scrapping.

Exactly why these were never mothballed until better times, its good to see the issue being aired on TV and the press......just NOT what the govenment/MOD/Fvckwits wanted

Cor blimey, conspiracy theorists and self righteous pomp all in one!!! Bargain!
There are reasons that the scrapping is proceedign at pace and it has nothing to do with MoD or BAES and more to do with the Treasury!

Yep, I can see why the Treasury is in a rush to waste another £200m dismantling the ac.
Another "considered" post from F3sr.

.. cos their value on the MoD Balance Sheet (albeit it's not real money!) is way more than that...... you couldn't make it up. I'm not defending it, just saying focus your spleen in the right area!!

"One of the saddest days of my life" I think we need to get things in perspective a little here! 30 odd peole have just been blown to small pieces in Moscow.
A lump of metal getting cut up does not really stop the world going round, yes it's tough for those involved and lots of people are going to loose their jobs (when I say lots I mean tiny in the grand scheme of things but hard none the less) lets all move on.

Its not over till its over
Members of the Unite union affected by the decision to scrap these most impressive of aircraft are continuing to campaign for the Government to postpone their destruction. We have a campaign website, Home and would encourage as many people as possible to visit. If any former top brass from the RAF (and the Royal Navy which benefitted greatly from the MRA4s) are prepared to go on the record about the impact of losing the MRA4s, please contact us via the website. Otherwise, please make as many people as possible aware of the website and also contact your own MP.
I think the one with the self righteous pomp is yourself
You need to get your head around the way fellow PPRuNers post. Just because someone posted something you didn't like there was no need to get anti.
MR4A is dead, end of.

The loss of the MPA - SAR Topcover role is inexcusable. The loss of Nimrod lies firmly with BAe. When Nimrod 2000 became Nimrod whenever, the writing was on the wall. It is not if but when the demise of a maritime military aircraft will bite the arse of government. The comments of the C130 mates regarding 'filling the gap', just like the Falklands, is a pathetic answer.
Odds of a disaster at sea just after the final strike of a JCB? Perhaps the Brunty & Elvington machines (MR2) have a future!

Shock horror - a website isn't that up to date.
If you're surprised by that, why don't you contact the company and "complain". While you're at it, try these as well
