Nato order of battle from late 80's

How times have changed...... whilst i do not miss the threat or fear of the cold war i do miss the variety and volume of aircraft i used to see..

Flicking through google and came across an order of battle from the late 80's

The RAF boasted at least 480 front line jets between germany and the Uk
The USAF had approx 380 + front line jets in the UK alone.

I live in east lothian and used to see

Tornado
Phantom
Buccaneer
Jaguar
Harrier
Hawk
Vulcan ( early to mid eighties)
F-111
EF-111
F-15 ( presumably from germany at that time)
A-10

Now all we see is

Tornado
Hawk
F-15 ( very occasionally)

Just the ramblings of a man who misses the flying and noise without the cold war that went with it

If I felt safer now, I wouldn't mind.

Still, Betty's Flying Club subsidised a lot of fun and travel for a while, not to mention a few 'Some day we'll look back on this and laugh' moments.

I would suggest that anyone who feels strongly enough about the demise of their ultimate insurance policy write to their MP and tell him/her - unless, of course, it is a New Labourite because they will not be in power much longer.
