just had a suggestion from a friend in the Army that the RAF could sell them in the DF shop at BZN or on trolleys down the aisles of the Tristar..........

I've just been looking on e-bay for an Elvis Presley Dambusters Clock plate of Tutankhamen and was suprised not to find any at all.

Does anyone know how many Viz sold?

Looks like it was quite a limited edition and that people must be hanging on to them as an investment.

wish I'd bought one now!

Has anyone a suggestion as to why the RAF bikini tops and bottoms are sold separately?

What aircraft are those in the top picture? Welcome to RAF Collection

To my 1950s eye they look like Valiants but Mrs Ex suggests they may be Backfires...

FROM Welcome to RAF Collection

Mid Briefs

RAFM8322
Incredibly comfortable and supportive with the RAF's logo "Per Ardua ad Astra" as a jacquard waistband.
Jacquard waistband.
Brevet printed to leg.
Non-functional opening.

Sizes Available:
Small, Medium, Large, XL, XXL

Price from:£12.00

Thats must be a P*ss take....... What is the point of putting an opening in them then sowing it up?

Perhaps it was inspired by the original plans for the Tiffys gun.......

Backs killing me

Apart from the missinp apostrophe

I was wondering about that. Pants without a fully functioning flap to the rear would have suited those would be nav studes who failed unless they had had that oriface surgically removed.

And the MoD went to court to protect the roundel so it wouldn't be used for naff branding and therefore dilluting the image of the RAF.

MoD v Arcadia Group. BBC 2003

You couldn't make it up.

I started laughing going through this thread. Then it dawned on me that if this is what is deemed appropriate by those charged with leading the Service, then I'm not sure I want anything more to do with it.

This is fung embarrassing, and it's just pushed me nearer the door.

My T - I'm not sure, but there's a chance that those leading the service may be despairing as much as you are.

After the case in wg13's link, management of the RAF roundel and 'brand' were handed over by the MoD to the company which does the licensing for the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and similar things.Amongst the first thing they did was to force Airfix (and similar firms) to pay for the right to put roundels on the transfers for their kits, which went down really well with modelling fans, AIUI.

It'd be interesting to know whether a 2* is approving these ideas, or whether the first anyone in the air force knows about the latest cunning marketing plan by these branding experts is when they find the latest 'You're not going to believe this....' thread on here.

Whenever glowing approval of this wheeze is required in the PR puff, it seems that some reluctant sqn ldr is wheeled out to say how wonderful the latest idea is, while those higher up the rank chain stay very, very quiet indeed.

Perhaps we need CGS to do another of his little interviews, in which, in the spirit of jointery, he makes some harsh comments about how ridiculous the RAF branding opportunities are becoming, thus frightening the Sec of State into forcing the marketing bods to calm down a bit?

Archi, the problem is the 'brand' is making money for the Treasury so it really doesn't matter how naff or objectionable the tat is. The way the Treasury will see it is; 'Mmm, more money to pish up the wall. So-what that a few biggles types get a bit upset. This is the 21st century and we dont care. We rebranded Neu Liabour and thats great'.

Sad but true.
