Not yet - it should eventually be here

It would be nice, and possibly look smart and efficient, if it could appear in a timely fashion for once.

In the long lost and sensible days of yore, 'twas always published in the Times and the Torygraph....

...... and they also used to include AFCs and QCVSAs with their published Honours Lists too.....o tempora o mores!"!!

Grrr Not Like the Old Days

Sadly there are no surprises anymore. Indeed many officers have been wearing the rank for some time, occasionally for a couple of years. It used to be v enjoyable (free champers too) to here the stn cdr announce at the stroke of midnight during the New Year Eve's Mess Ball all those incorrectly dressed (promoted on 1 Jan) and those getting a NYHL gong. Even the gong-getters have a few days warning. Not like the old days mutter mutter etc.

Don't know about you Royals but us Baldrick's no longer even get a blue letter. In fact the only way you find out is to ring your deskie direct as he no longer even tells your Boss or Staish. Eventually an email arrives from said deskie but thats it, the days of the "who's improperly dressed" japes are sadly now gone

I'm surprised that there is anybody left to promote with so many of you guys threatening to PVR ! - Oh sorry. I forgot about the 1*s and above. They seem to keep on moving up the trough.

Gazette Website: PDF Navigator

If that doesn't work, it's Gazette Issue 58752 published on the 1 July 2008. Page 7 of 12

Once more in the USAF and you'd be out Arty......

Making Major is around 95 % likelihood at the moment I understand. Anyone have an idea what the RAF figures would be....?

Hmmmm, twas more of a cultural reference. Though whether it can be classed as culture is highly debatable.

I think if I actually counted the figure would have had me out of the USAF at least twice by now. Not that I nor anyone who knows me would be surprised...

I really must have a word with the Admin types. Not only was I missed off the gongs list, but now I find I'm not even on the promotion list - come on chaps, sort it out. How could an exemplar officer such as I be missed off both in the space of 2 months?!

Well done to those who have earned it - including some good mates who should have picked up before now, nice to see the rotary world doing well.

To those of you who haven't earned it - including my idiot flt cdr from IOT who was out of his depth as an SO3 - the ability to retain a pulse does not mean you are actually fit to do the job and most importantly you may be higher ranking, but you certainly aren't superior!

Well, eventually the RAF website might catch up. Maybe after they get around to updating 25 and 56 Sqns.

Not very good. But it is possible to make major in the army.

I think it's now called 'The Young Boys Network' where the Commanders are probably last to know as the youngsters in PSF deliver the 'good news' by telephone or email. Does it devalue those years of hard work when your Boss called you in and you were surprised and chuffed at being told by a person in authority?

FFP,

I hear, allegedly, etc, that it rather depends on how many Xmas draws and Summer balls one organizes, although the odd families' day also counts, and, of course, the brownness of one's nose and attendance of 'happy hour'. Which, I believe, is now 'networking hour'.

Difficult for you to do any of the above at the mo, so best you stick at just being good at your job. Which doesn't count for promotion, apparently.

D-IFF,

Very true. It's not called "Promotion in the Park" for nothing I guess...

No joy on the Summer draw front, but I am racking up the Op Allowance at the moment

JPA Notifications

Other interesting issue is that now we are promoted by e-mail, there'd be very little to stop someone just putting up the rank and there'd be no way to find out they're pulling the wool until the list came out.......

I went to a USMC friend's promotion a couple of years back - they made such a big thing of it, formal parade, getting the rest of the troops out to support and congratulate him and his Colonel was delighted that I had made the effort to go along and pin his new bars on.

I know it's not quite the same thing, but when I got my Flt Lt, there had been a bit of discussion as I had additional qualifications which they were trying to work out whether they would give me early promotion. I found out not by email, talking to the desk etc, but from an SAC in PSF who was vey apologetic when I rang and was told "oh by the way Sir, you do know you're now a F/L don't you? It came through 2 days ago."

All really rather depressing isn't it and quite a sharp contrast with the situation highlighted above .... when people put the effort in and work their nuts off but the system can't be bothered to tell them in a decent manner that they have been promoted. Really does give an indication of how people are viewed by the system these days. And JPA and automation is no excuse - if the US forces can do it with their automated personnel systems, why can't we?
