East Coast Floods 2007
I hope that there are enough serviceable SAR aircraft available to cover any rescues from the floods expected later.
With COBRA having met earlier, I was waiting to see the SH boys lifting sandbags in to strengthen the sea defences………..or maybe not.
Any news of any rescues yet?

It's all kicking off about now, it's just gone high tide in Norfolk. It's when the surge comes down the Channel towards London that the panic button will be hit.

Thing is with the closure of Colt etc the local civi Police haven't got a pool of disciplined manpower they could drag in to provide area security, SAR support, additional medical facilities, temporary shelter etc during emergencies, (aid to the civil.....something)

Great footage from the BBC this morning, some bird inside a gym. Could have been anywhere. That k**b Bill turnbull talking about this great disaster and the only footage was of a few paving stones at GY getting a bit splashed!

Took the CS95 into work at BAE Norfolk today as I wouldn't have been surprized at the call to help if it came. I was at Colt when a large percentage of the guys ended up at Salthouse one bad tide...
My Daughter saw the the Bure flood at Wroxham (She goes to school at Broadland High).
Remember Ex RAF Swanton Morley has a large gathering of our brown cousins in reserve for any Norfolk relief (if they were at home)...
It was quite close to being not a non event (Tide and surge were not quite in disaster producing phase, I am led to believe)

What a surprise, nothing like a bit of fear to put the people back in their place. Who started this one then?
1.Met Office, so as not to have another 'Hurricane' incident.
2.Environmental Agency to get more funding in future?
3.Global Warming people, this is what you are doing to your planet. (Don't forget that when global warming reaches a point, it will only be 4x4s that will be able to get around!)
4.Government, to put the public in check?
5.Government to justify more taxes to pay for coastal defences?
6.Environmentalists, look how vulnerable the Nuclear power stations are?
7.Government, to evacuate areas that just so happen to be near Nuclear Power Stations?
8.Government, to hide something else?
This was going to be devastation, "the likes of which we have never seen", on one channel and on the other, "the worst coastal flooding for half a century". Don't forget the constant reminders of the boxing day tsunami.
If nothing else comes of this, lets realise that it is an event that happens regularly, (ok may be 50 years, may be 27, but on an Earth timescale, regular known blips in the water level) just like everything else!! It's as though a Met man was casually reading an article in Cloud magazine about what happened a while back and thought, it's windy and it will be high tide later, blimey better cover ourselves on this one! 'Alert Cobra'!
And a final thing, where is all the money going that has been obtained on the back of global warming, if all these seas defences would actually in fact have been of little use? Yes global warming is happening, do something about it instead of just protecting the MPs pension funds!!
One of the big cries in the global warming issue is rising seas levels, yet NOTHING has been done except tax, tax, tax.
I might as well add, if it was really going to be so bad, why on Earth were there people allowed to be on the sea-fronts, including camera crews, idly watching it all?
In 25 years time, I would like to see, the Capital City move inland, power stations moved inland and our failing sea defences brought up to scratch. And if they haven't got enough money already out of the environment fund, looks like the MPs 'twice as much as the national average wage pension' will have to take a kicking!!
Now for a nice cup of tea and a listen to Radio2
