In the '60s, when GIBAIR had a DC3 on the Tangier run, he used to make some interesting North/South landings in the crosswind.

Gibraltar - Sporty Approaches

So what was that excellent story about the Navy Bucc that landed at Gib with hydraulic failure? As I hear it, he took the CHAG and stopped. Unfortunately, the cable had been attached to the upwind end of the CHAG and he stopped rather quickly with substantial damage to his rear end?

BTW Used to enjoy dinner in mess, bottle of DF gin from the shop then everlasting G&T in the hotel bar. Those waiters in Hotel Bastdos could never work it out. Happy Nimrod days

Has anyone asked Paul Preston flying Hawks for Fradu about a sporty Gib approach - missing bits of his wing on a hawk?
He may just win!

I was involved in Ex Linked Seas a few years ago when 'the other' crew left the ac via the rope 3 sorties in a row after taxying in with hot brakes.

The Buccs were banned from breaking into the cct because of delays to the traffic.

An excellent happy hour had by all 'climbing up the sunshine mountain'!

PS the shipping in Algeciras bay could be a bit of a problem on departure. They could significantly effect TODA!

Not quite true, I was the captain! We only blew 2 of the main wheels. The rest were just scalded!! I learned about flying from that - don't change the decision to divert just because the weather "has just cleared" as you pass over destination on the way to the div and don't let a student make his first landing at Gib on a wet runway at night!!
As approaches at Gib go it was one of the better ones - no X wind or turbulence, incidentally, as I recall ATC reported "No significant standing water"
