This is without any doubt the worst thread on PPRUNE
I wish that they had shut down this thread a long time ago. It really undermines all the good work that Lyneham has done over the years and the reputation of the crews. It unfairly makes the RAF Herc fraternity a laughing stock to the rest of the RAF and anyone else who can be arsed to read the pages of petty drivel and point scoring. Its the same old names arguing, over and over again and making everyone else look like dicks.
This year is the 40th Anniversary of the C-130 in RAF service, and everyone who has served and continues to serve on Albert should be proud of what they have achieved, and the way they have turned Albert into a legendary aircraft. It may be an apt time to ditch this thread, move on and look to the future.
There is a rough ride ahead with the High Op-Tempo, Lack of funding, Lack of kit, Wind down of the K fleet and most importantly the closure of Lyneham. Its time to be united, and make the most of what you have.

100% behind SALAD on this one. With so much going on at the minute and a busy year ahead, maybe the usual suspects should take a look at the bigger picture. Let's not forget about an anniversary looming in a few days time.

Just checked back after having no internet connection for the last couple of days.
The banter re dets etc I can take (for f#cks sake I started the thread). But to use the tragedy of 2 years ago (God, has it gone that quick?) to try and win a point is low.

I'm thinking back to around '80-'82 when I was at a certain Lincolnshire station that caused a major diversion in a Roman road - oh if only we'd had a forum like this to have a go at the Waddo boys, the OCU, 27 or 617. As it was, we had to save it for the bowling alley. Nice to see nothing much has changed

Agreed; human nature is unappealing (if a little predictable). I for one would prefer that 'handbags at dawn' was done in the privacy of the Os' ans Sgts' Messes rather than in public. Far too often this thread has degenerated into purile, if not infantile, insult-hurling doing nothing other than tarnishing the good name of the largely-unsung Hercules' crews (both varieties) - with whom I am proud to have been associated.
So, without further ado, Tim please do the honours.

I think some of the unquantifiable airmanship, balance and common sense that a nav brings to the flight deck would be as applicable now to the J deck as it was when I went through Thorney Island OCU on the Klassic in 1971. Without a pole the testosterone doesn't pulse so dangerously hard--think about it. We all want to win and the K has done so so well for many years with its Klassic Krew Komposition.

The "testosterone" you so jealously refer to is actually "ability" which I would suggest you are rather lacking in hence your being streamed Nav

As an ex-TS loadie, this thread echoes all the frustrations I experienced during my time on Ks.
The first 2 questions I always wanted to ask, as I climbed the few steps onto the FD, were as follows:
To the 'guy' sitting directly ahead, "You are?" and on turning left to the 'guy' sitting in the centre seat, "What do you do?"
Come on guys, be real. Js (3 crew) are, de facto, the present, and the future.

As an ex TS loadie, if you really had to ask that, you obviously didn't know what the f@@K was going on. Maybe when you stick your head on the flight deck you should look at the Link16 and the rest of the toys and see if you could work it.
As far as I was concerned, the Air Eng was the biggest safety cog on the flight deck. I haven't flown the J, but a two man flight deck works well because it's a modern aircraft and therefore designed with that in mind. Nonetheless, it doesn't have half the gear it should have.
I don't know a competent, professional loadmaster who would have to ask those same questions. Does that tell a story...
