This is war, Buddy - mud, blood, and bullets.

Still, we are in Hollywood, where the bulllets always miss and the Yanks always win. And the mud and the blood are makeup.

Not a caption, but to add for those not in the know that both Clark Gable and James Stewart served with distinction in 8th USAAF during WW2. Gable was an air gunner and James Stewart was a B-24 pilot who became a Squadron Commander and promoted to Colonel by the end of the War. After the War, Stewart became a Brigadier General in the reserve and flew as an "unofficial observer" on some bombing missions during the Vietnam War. Unlike some of the Hollywood Heroes who managed to dodge action, these two were in the thick of it. Indeed, I believe that James Stewart flatly refused to let his studio use his wartime service for any publicity. If any actor deserved to wear military uniform then it was James Stewart.

Gable served, did 5 missions, all while making a training film, so not sure it was with distinction. Jimmy, however.....
