Early prototype tests suggested that the siting of the transponder was not ideal, and that having to land to squawk standby was operationally a little restrictive.

Keeping Labour MPs 'on message' via pagers hadn't worked, but wiring them up to the National Grid was probably a bit extreme, mused Brian as he switched the system to live.
