Ex Cornish Titan
Having just about dried out my gear after a week in what I believe was, by glimpses between the rain showers, mist and 15ft cloud base, Cornwall, can anyone enlighten me as to whether we won this time?
Personally I thought it was a well planned and well executed exercise and twas nice of them to let folks downtown, something which didn't happen in '02. Pity the future looks so bleak for St Mawgan.

St Mawgan Looking Bleak eh
I fear not for long.
Afterall UKMFTS and JSF/JCA need a home somewhere and with everthing else chock full seems as though St M is ideal.
MQ's, long runway, civvy airlink to support etc.
Oh, and they've not spent any money on it recently so not yet ready for disposal.
As was reported in the press "Ex Cornish Titan was to give service personnel an opportunity to exercise in a potentially hostile terrain". A bit harsh on the Cornish but perhaps softening up the Light Blue for the inevitable.
We'll see nimrod rtn to the SW yet!!!

Heard the most challenging bit was keeping your kit dry!

Obviously an exercise dreamt up by a senior officer who has been at HQSTC for a very, very long time, drawing flying pay and doing very little. Most front line aircraft, aircrew and engineers have spent the last few years operating in just the conditions simulated in the exercise so what exactly are we supposed to have learnt?

Stupid Boy, you are of course quite right. However the exercise is there to test the DOB command and the JFACHQ in fighting an intensive campaign when the DOB itself is under attack from a variety of corners. Surely training which is made as realistic as possible, for air and support personnel alike, is to be commended?
On the same thread, there's a rumour going round that TACEVALs are to make a comeback.

CT 04
CT 04 was essentially a FP exercise (IDT +), with a standard UK flypro attached.
IMHO, the scenario was weak and quickly abandoned when it got in the way of individual units trg (the JFAC putting the E3A over Valley when there was supposedly a Fishbed threat from there, just one example)..!
More should have been made of the fact that for 10 days, F3s, GR4s, AWACS, FRA were all co-located - a more organised inter-asset briefing and de-briefing system would have maximised this opportunity.
..and yes, my kit is also still drying out :-)
