Having talked to a guy that completed the 'final board' last year I think their minds are pretty much made up when you go in for the interview it is more of a one way thing than a two way conversation. That said just make sure that you come across as a keen to learn, but flexible with it. But that is something you have already done to get through selection and aptitude testing.

ps
don't mention the lack of AH QHI's at wallop or the delays in the AH program or the aircraft gathering dust in Shawbury, or the empty hangar at Dishforth, and you'll be OK.......maybe

I know a chap who went up to Middle Wallop the night before his interview, got shedded with the mess members and then woke up the next day still a little drunk and about 30 mins late for his interview. By the time he had got to the interview room all the other candidates(who arrived that morning) were outside having been interviewed and given a grilling for about 45 mins each.

He walked into the interview about an hour and a half late, and looking rather hung over and flustered. Several people had already phoned up that morning to report the fellows antics and conduct, and he was told that his exploits of last night had been noted and there was no need to continue the interview. The Board said that they knew all that they needed to know about him and there was only one question:

"What do you think of Lady Dianna?"

"I dont think she is much of a Lady, and she must be blind to stay with Charlie" Came the drunken reply

And that was it. In less than 5 minutes total the interview was over. As he was walking out thinking that was the end of his short AAC career he was told to expect some good news in the post but not to tell the others.

He was the only one that day to be offered sponsorship. So I guess if you fit the bill, you really have to work hard to screw it up.

Be yourself, as by 'playing to the gallery' or trying to be something your not you will always loose out and come across a little sterile or boring. The AAC is a fantastic service and one of its biggest strenghts is the great characters that it has managed to attract and maintain. If you have passed grading and the other tests, all you need to do now is convince them that you could fit in and be one of the people that they would like to serve beside.

Good luck, have fun and get a loud alarm clock!

Thanks for the replies so far, note that i've stopped SHOUTING! Heard a rumour that the AAC have just turned down the BLUH. Does anyone know anything about that? Also, i read press reports some time back that the Apache couldnt fire some of its port side mounted weapon systems, as debris was forced toward the tail rotor. Has this problem been overcome yet?

1st point: no we haven't, quite the opposite in fact, i think its future depends on the government bean counters after the publication of the white paper, but as BLUH is going to be a sensor heavy platform it would make sense (and therefore not necessarily be what they do!) to have it on, or above the battlefield where we are all going to be 'network enabled'

I think 'network enabled' means we are going to write really big on our notebooks and drop it down the message chute! Well as BLUH is to replace Gazelle, it must have a message chute!

As to your second point, don't believe all you hear/read in the press!

If you really want any AH specific stuff you can pm me, don't think it would do you much good but I can try to answer any questions and quash a few rumours, or steal them and spread them round the corps !!!!

It has something to do with the Army outside the AAC, (as apparently there is some) not bothering to apply for selection, thinking it was beyond the mere squaddie or some twoddle. That has hopefully been rebalanced as there was an article in Soldier mag about it. The more NCO's the better, and the latest rumour is if you are a Cpl when you start training at wings you get your third as well. Not sure if this decesion has made it to the army board yet though...

Forty years ago you had to be a Cpl to go for selection, if successful you became an acting/unpaid Sgt for the course and got your third proper when you got your wings.

Salad Dodger,

I've got this friend who went to see the AAC before he attended the RCB Brief and got shedded in the bar the night before the interviews. Admittedly these sponsorship interviews are not quite as important or final as the Selection Interviews which go on whilst at Sandbags, but he felt he had made his mark and had a bloody good night with his new found friends.

He was then offered sponsorship and went on the pass both RCBs and Flying Grading. Are you saying that he's got a pretty good chance of getting in when he attends these interviews in week 30 or so of RMAS?

It all depends on the competition, how he has done at RMAS until the point of the Regimental Interview Boards and lastly what his Grading score was like. They tell you after Flight Grading how well you have done and how they think you will do on the Pilots Course. I think having a sponsorship early on helps alittle bit, but i am not sure.

All the best to him, what term is he going in?
