I joined as a 16 year old Boy Entrant at RAF Cosford (2 School of Technical Training) in 1959, u/t Telegraphist II. Demobbed 1973 from 3 MHU RAuxAF where I'd been an instructor for 3 years. Only active airfields I served on were Sharjah 1963-64 - Twin Pioneer, Argosy, Beverley - and Akrotiri 1965-67 - Javelin, Hasting, Lightning and Canberra. Akrotiri was a busy (and noisy!) airfield and I worked in a very busy commcen (4 watches covering 24/7, 1 Sgt, 1 Cpl plus 7 airmen/airwomen per watch). The film gave me an opportunity to see how the RAF used to be.

There's a coincidence! A chum lent me the RAF in the 1950s DVD and I saw that very film last night!

How EVER did we let the RAF get into the awful state it's in today?

BEagle,
politicians both civil and military brought the RAF to the present parlous state.

What a wonderful piece of film ... Many thanks Ricardian for the post

We certainly had some drop dead gorgeous aeroplanes (I'll discount the Washington if I may) back then ... and plenty of them

Very good film, lots of great aircraft and it was nice to see RCAF Vampires. Thanks for posting it.

And I knew a fellow who flew them and he claimed it was the finest 3 engined bomber the RAF ever had!
