Exercise Shiksha - any RAF Javelin types remember exercise in India?
Hi Folks,
I help in running an Indian Air Force site - my friend (who is the webmaster for the site) just heard from an ex-IAF Wg Cdr (now ensconced in Canada) about his experiences with USAF F-100s in an air defence exercise in November 1964. I guess enough lessons must have been learned since the next one involving the USAF was 50 yrs later! (Exercise Cope India - just concluded).
In the article (http://www.bharat-rakshak.com/IAF/Hi...Shiksha01.html) Wg Cdr Michael makes the following observation
"There was another minor exercise in Eastern Air Command which involved RAF Javelin fighters operating from Kalaikunda. The Javelins operated alongside our Toofanis. But that exercise is another story and is best told by someone who was there!".
Anyone here who can tell the story?
Cheers

Only so far as being part of the Valiant tankers from 90 and 214 who refuelled them out and some of them back. Some went on to Singapore for Confrontation and at least one came back all bent after ejecting the Nav over the Jungle, I think his survival was a story in itself. I still have the tie which has Skiksha in Sanscript on it. We, poor folk, were stuck in Butterworth with only steak for breakfast, for the duration of the exercise with a mad drunken W/C doc attempting to take over the detachment when our boss went sick. Fortunately he was sent packing.
