Gulf Air to Open Call Centre in Oman

Gulf Air to set up reservations call centre in Oman. That should encourage Oman to stay within the consortium!

From the UAE Gulf News(6/1):

"Gulf Air will set up its first centralised reservations system through the establishment of a call centre, which will be based in Oman. The airline's president and chief executive, James Hogan, said the bookings throughout the Middle-East will be managed through the Gulf Air Reser-vations Centre, and added the world-class centre would provide employment opportunities to Omanis. It would also complement the communications infrastructure in Oman, he claimed.

Hogan said the location of the call centre in Oman was a major boost to supporting equal opportunities with Gulf Air in its owner states. He said employment opportunities for Omani nationals will be given a boost by the estimation that up to 300 people will be employed in the centre within three years. The centre is expected to be operational in 90 days.

He said the Gulf Air board approved a three-year strategic recovery plan that included a cash injection of $238 million for this year and the continued deferral of government debt.

He also announced that Gulf Air is talking to a number of leading alliances including Star and OneWorld. "A decision about going with one or the other can be expected in the first half of 2003," he said.

On the company's financial position, he said Gulf Air has a strategy plan to reduce losses incurred last summer to 24 million Bahraini dinars and to increase its summer flights to Seeb Airport from 65 to 105."
