Bahrain Schools

Could some one in Bahrain please let me know what school most of the expats go to in Bahrain. Also if you would not mind, let me know what area/suburb the school is in and the best place to locate a family to live in Bahrain. Thanks.

There are a number of good schools in Bahrain. Most are located in the Isa Town educational area. At school opening and closing times traffic in this area is a nightmare (Imagine Jakarta at peak hour). School bus, provided by (in most cases) private bus companies, is the best option.

The schools themselves? Depending on your own requirements many options are available: Indian School, British School, St. Christophers, Pakistani School, Al Bayan, Sacred Heart etc. Educational standards are, in general, very good with many expat students having no difficulties on return to their home countries. Children from my own country, for instance, who have spent all of their younger days in Bahrain have had no difficulty at all completing their final two years at home. In fact perhaps an advantage is available in a more complete "world view" than some of their home grown counterparts.

You haven't said who your employer is so just a word of warning. Fees at St. Christopher's (British curriculumn), for instance, are not cheap. If your employer offers an educational allowance it may not cover these fees.

Without knowing your specific requirements it is difficult to offer any more advice. However if you are worried about a move to Bahrain because of your children's education then don't be too concerned. Younger children, particularly, love it here. Teenagers with a good family to support them adapt and can flourish. If you need more info don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks for the info Possum 15. I am coming from Australia to join Gulf Air.It looks like the British School would be the best. Would
you know the actual fee`s at one of these schools. Thanks again for the info.

From what i've heard as i don't have kids, the gulf air allowance covers about half the cost. The housing allowance is also short by about 100 bd or so of the cost of a decent house. Guys who are here with their whole family are not saving much at the end of the month. Most married guys live aout of town on the compounds in budaiya or sar. houses in town are more expensive.

Wilburworm, depending on the age of your child (ren) St. Christophers would probably be suitable. If you want my reasons (subjective) for this send me a private message.

Fees for St. Christophers 2002/2003 (per term, 3 of):

Nursery BD421
Reception BD600
Years 1/2 BD600
Years 3/4 BD681
Years 5/6 BD708
Years 7/8 BD853
Years 9/10/11 BD1121
Years 12/13 BD1422

As far as GF is concerned an example: BD 681 fees, rebate from GF BD283. Mmmmmm.

Accommodation prices for "Villa" (and I use the term very loosely), vary from BD350 (dogbox), BD600 (livable) to BD 800-1200+++ (very nice). Once again this is a subjective opinion and others may disagree. Mmmmmmmm.

My vote goes to St. Christophers as well; was always excellent. No-one has mentioned the American School. Is it still going? Was always highly thought of but very expensive.

One thing re. St. Christophers; maybe it's changed. In my time there were two schools; the junior in Budaiya & the senior at Isa Town. If your kids are spread over a bit it gets a bit hectic running around the two schools. This is years ago, maybe it's changed.

4HolerPoler...this is still the same...the Barbar (or Budaiya as they call the location also) hosts the first 2 years reception etc.
Afterwards it is ISA town.
Possum 15 is spot on with the current price list.
