Qatar conditions

Hello,

someone out there with informations about QR pay and conditions for CAPT and F/O?

I'm A310/300-600 type rated.

Many thanks

Chevy-SS 5th November 2002 14:02

without getting into details I would just like to say that QR is probably one of the best deals around now.

Copilot: basic salary 12000QR/month
Captain: 16OOO QR/month

Above that you will be receiving generous bonusses and i can assure you that, certainly as an FO, you will be making good money!

Backside: on the A300 you will have a lot of stopovers...

FlyHigher 5th November 2002 18:46

Thank's very much.

QR pay any house allowance?

Thank's again.

Chevy-SS 7th November 2002 09:50

Housing allowance= 4500 QR

haselled 7th November 2002 16:37

12000 QR equates to less than £25,000 sterling per annum.......way behind the likes of Emirates!!

Chevy-SS 7th November 2002 18:04

Actually,

with all the extras I am making more money at QR than I would at EK!

The only domain that EK scores better is maybe the facilities they provide to their pilots concerning housing and carloans etc....

for the rest , QR is better, offers a bigger carreer perspective and is catching up!

pontius's pa 10th November 2002 16:19

Chevy SS

Dont be silly.

The total benefits with QR do not approach those from Emirates.

Especially if you have kids to educate

Pls advise current education allowance. It used to be QR1000 per month.

Fly4Fun 10th November 2002 16:58

Hi guys,

Anybody with informations about promotions and lifestyle at QR?

Thanks

Chevy-SS 10th November 2002 20:04

Education allowance is about 1600 QR which is, i have to admit, rather poor

But besides that I am making better money at QR than I would at EK!!!!

And for me personally carreerperspectives are much better!

Alphaprot 14th November 2002 06:42

I would really like to see how you get your figures to work better than EK, Chevy.
First year Line Capt (promotion happens after 3 years in company) with EK is on 24,500 QR basic wage rising by 3% per year to 39,500 QR/month for a long stay Line Capt, Housing allowance is 9500 QR plus all the other Expat allowences. Trainers get paid more.
Just to put the record straight.

Chevy-SS 14th November 2002 09:44

You are right but....

Qatar accept low time pilots!
Qatar accepts direct entry captains
Qatar gives extras as well for all instructors
Average time to upgrade is 1.5years
Upgrade to capt is 5000Hrs or 1 year in the company if you have the flight time

At Qatar an FO gets in total 22000QR (even the low time ones) and a captain 330000QR from the beginning! And it goes up as well!

Besides that there is supposed to be a payrise in the short future of another 1000USD!!!

The one thing that EK has more are the facilities: low intrest loans, shool allowances, housing, etc....But they are working on it here as well and within a couple of years this problem will be fixed!

I like to believe that pilots will have it as good at QR as at EK. Within due time the only diffrence will be that QR will be a much smaller airline but to put in frankly, I do not care at all!

saudipc-9 14th November 2002 11:46

Chevy-SS,
I am thinking of putting in an application to Qr even though I do not have a A-320 rating. Living here I'm not getting much of chance to get one. Just wondering how you like QR?
Reading other posts, QR is going through one or two problems but show me an airline that hasn't during it's time operating.
How are the locals? Different I hope from Saudi. How are the accomodations?
Thanks.

Chevy-SS

Good for you!
I am am F/O with EK, and very happy to be here. You are with QR and happy there. I'd say we are a couple of lucky guyes. There is absolutly no argument here.

Cheers...that is if you are allowed to drink in Qatar:)

Chevy-SS 14th November 2002 21:03

Hi payscale,

You are right on mate.....everybody has to make his own decisions!

Actually, it is fairly easy to get alcohol on Doha once you know the appropriate channels to go through....I am sure you know what I mean!;)

Although I have to admit that nightlife is much much much much better in DXB then it is in DOH!

But hey, all I have to do is hop on a flight to DXB and I have fun there as well!

Keep it safe up there!

Chevy - SS,

......a QR captain making 33,000QR a month! You'll have to tell us how you got to that number, or you're on a different pay scale than most of us.

Cost of living: A FO with a couple of kids at school and living in a decent villa, barely breaks even. Far from EK my friend. I hope that this 1000us dollar raise you're talking about will come sooner than later. But some guys share an apartment or stay in the hotel (some hotels give special rates on rooms and food to QR employees), and I find that what they bring home is very decent and acceptable. Others, huuummm...........???

Experience FOs getting upgraded within one year? I hope so but do not thing so. If they can find direct entry captains, it won't happen tomorrow. Same with your 1.5 year average for upgrades. They'll upgrade some senior FOs in the coming months, that's good. But they seem to be able to find A300 captains unemployed at the moment and they will be giving some priority as well. Attracting A320s captains at the moment seems to be a problem.

It's not that the management's intentions are not sincere, just that they are expanding and they want to do it the proper way and I have no problem with that. But one has to be realistic when making predictions on the future of experienced and not so experienced FOs at QR. But I'm sure that upgrades will come in a decent time for everybody according to experience and seniority.
I'm still very happy with the move I made in joining QR, don't get me wrong.
Cheers!!

If an FO is having problems of getting around on QR22000 then he or she has a serious problem!

I live in a nice compound, I drive a nice car and I can save 50% of my salary a month!!!!

Sure, if you defenitely need a Range Rover, you wanna live at Le Mirage for 12000QR/month etc then you will have problems!

But then again, ask yourself: would you be able to do that in your home country? I do not think so!!!

Captains pyscale:24900 QR/month plus 1500QR airbus allowance + 10QR/hour away from base +overtime pay etc and you will easily have QR30000+.....

QR33000 was maybe a bit optimistic, sorry for that but it still is not bad!

As an FO you take home an average of QR22000/month......so FOs are maybe better paid then captains when you compare both!

Concerning the payrise...they will have to impliment that because otherwise pilots wont stay....They will have to do something in order to compensate for the lack of facilities provided when you compare QR to EK or GF for example...but I am sure managment knows that and they are working on it!

Upgrade: I consider a move from A320 to A330 as well as upgrade so yes.....the average is 1.5 years! And if you are on the A320 fleet and you have the hours to become captain it will not take you long because the direct entry market for A320 captains is about to dry up now....In europe...none available anyway!

E.P. 15th November 2002 11:46

Attracting A320 Captains is a problem........Direct entry A320 Captain market about to dry up??????????

JEEEZZZZ!! Maybe the QR recruiting guy should check the million or so SUITABLE applications from AUSTRALIA!

Big_Yellow_Bird 15th November 2002 18:14

If these pilots in Australia are A320 Type Rated, I assume you are talking about ex Ansett guys. However maybe QR is looking for guys who have worked on the aircraft recently. They can't take on captains to sit in the left seat of their aircraft straight away if they haven't flown the aircraft in over a year.

I believe EK has a problem hiring some of the Ansett guys. This may apply to QR too. I heard something about EK refusing to hire Ansett guys who were involved in some large pilot dispute with the airline some time ago. Some sort of union thing and a dispute with Ansett. Im not sure how true that is so if someone who knows could back that up with some concrete information it would be appreciated. If it is true, maybe QR are also reluctant to take on those guys. It is unfortunate, I know, but there are no unions in the Middle East and the airlines in the area must have something against pilots that have been involved in large disputes elsewhere.

Cheers

A word of warning.

Whilst I don't think BYB is winding up 89'ers, please do not start the normal spiral of vitriol normally associated with this delicate subject.

BYB, you have just given a particularly nasty hornets nest a nasty jolt. Just when I thought things were nice & quiet.

Choose your weapons gentlemen............................

Chevy-SS 15th November 2002 20:46

One thing they are concerned about is that Australians have this name of wanting to go back home as soon as a new company kicks off in Australia!

There are quit a few ex ansett blokes here ( a lot!) and when you ask most of them: " what would you do if SIA kicks off the new ansett airline?" most of them will say : I am out of here!

I think QR is trying to limit this risk by not hiring any more ex ansett blokes right now because otherwise they risk on loosing too many pilots at the same time....

As a mather of fact I think they are trying to avoid having to large numberes of pilots with the same nationality in general for those reasons...

I can understand that as well.....

Anyway, good luck in finding a job EP......pretty soon we will all be flying again!
