Pharmacy First Scheme

To take pressure off the doctors, the new scheme is out to see the pharmacyst first in EK. He/she seems to be able to cater for most ailments except prescribing the associated sick leave authorisation. Personally, colds, runny pooh (especially after consuming is your dinner a winner) and other numerous ailments do not need the doctors advice unless the said chemist thinks so?

More cutbacks?

Jack

Where will the Clinic SVP and VPs stand Medico Legally on this? And the poor Pharmacist?

Looks like yet more cuts. I hope no one suffers because of some misdiagnosis.

Idiots

:ugh:

Seems a good idea to me!

captainsmiffy 15th December 2014 11:18

Gentlemen, Mr Turner is not actually saying that you must see the pharmacist.....merely that you might consider it. It is thus not a change to the system at all but allows for those suffering from colds etc not to have to waste a doctors appointment time. It is a judgement call on your behalf. If there is doubt, though, then there is no doubt - book the appointment with the doctor.

777boyindubai 15th December 2014 11:44

Mr. Turner is trying to increase the throughput of the Clinic with no reference to how this will affect the quality of care offered. Like FD and CC, some seriously overworked people in DTC and HQ. The walkin clinic is stuffed to the gunwales most days. How about some more Doctors and Nurses, Mr. Turner. Frankly speaking you are not expanding your numbers to cope with increased cc and fd recruitment.

The Outlaw 15th December 2014 17:26

No surprises there. Remember the arrogance that sewered Gulf Air?

Bring Back The Biff 16th December 2014 14:31

From what I hear, EK is having difficulty keeping the Doctors they hire. Many are leaving for the unmentionable airline down the road.
'Many' being equal to one.

Grass not much greener there...

777boyindubai 16th December 2014 16:46

The sand is much greener. Doubled his money. Good luck to Dr. DF.

Swansafa 16th December 2014 19:20

They already use the indians on the front desk for so-called "triage" so having pharmacists diagnosing illnesses isn't surprising. It's actually an amazing new leap in medical efficiency. The receptionist will determine if you're allowed to see the overworked pharmacist.

Imagine having to flop out your wang to show the pharmacist what you got from one of the English GRIIs.

I hope no one suffers because of some misdiagnosis.
Sadly, based on past performance, seeing an EK doc is no guarantee of a correct diagnosis.

helen-damnation 16th December 2014 21:49

Judging by the impressive amount of verbal diarrhoea and flatulence on this post, some people should be running to the pharmacy

Yarra 16th December 2014 22:46

Care to elaborate Swansafa???. You state on "past performance" and insinuate that the Clinic Doctors misdiagnose regularly.

Wondering if some of you commenting in this thread would be prepared to accept critiques from Doctors and Pharmacists on your level of expertise as Pilots or whatever position you hold.

BTW, we all have the option of opting out of the clinic resources. So...if you are not confident with the level of care on offer at the clinic, go elsewhere.....

nolimitholdem 16th December 2014 22:59

Many' being equal to one.
Except that "one" was 50% of the ENT specialists on staff. So now there is precisely one left to treat the entire EK workforce. Laughable. Don't even mention the lack of dentists/hygienists.

And he may have been the only one to go up the road - he certainly isn't alone in the exodus in general. Talk to some of the ones still on the property, find out how happy they are and looking around elsewhere. The malaise crosses all departments.

Just can't understand why everyone isn't breaking down the doors to work at EK? :ugh:

BigGeordie 17th December 2014 01:10

Actually Yarra, as pilots, we don't have the option of opting out of clinic treatment, although our families do.

Eight months now since I last saw a hygienist, just can't get an appointment. By the time the roster comes out all the slots for the next month are booked.

Yarra 17th December 2014 14:05

Fair enough BG...there must be a solution of sorts there though....perhaps make an appointment for the next couple of months and others after that as well and bid around it..cancel or keep the appointment??. Pilots not opting out...does that also extend to dental or only to the GCAA related medicals??

Swansafa 17th December 2014 14:31

You state on "past performance" and insinuate that the Clinic Doctors misdiagnose regularly.
No, Yarra, I did not insinuate a regularity to the misdiagnoses at all nonetheless it has happened and other errors, unforgiveable if not unheard of in a western facility, have also affected your colleagues. The clowns on the front desk have been involved in some of them. How regular or irregular does it need to be to have a major impact on someone's life?

I won't elaborate on the personal details I'm afraid, not on here.

Wondering if some of you commenting in this thread would be prepared to accept critiques from Doctors and Pharmacists on your level of expertise as Pilots or whatever position you hold.
When they are landed at the wrong airport, they should feel perfectly free to critique the captain.

As for solutions, they obvious one would be for more dentists to be hired to deliver what is promised in the interviews.

BigGeordie 18th December 2014 00:28

Yarra, it is all medical and all dental. The only way to get to a dental appointment is to book it and go sick if needed. That is totally unacceptable, especially without the option of going elsewhere.

aussiefarmer 18th December 2014 06:09

Spent 5 hours at the walk in clinic the other day. It was packed with people with a simple flu that needed a doc's sick note. What a nonsense.
Just sayin'.
