Middle East opportunities reducing
It is clear that pilot opportunities are dropping fast. Whether it be EK, EY, QR, or smaller outfits, the crew requirements appear to be dropping fast. Any ideas why?
Hiring slowdown
hey mate looks its true, a friend of mine recently came back from the middle east and said he was told by hiring officials from the airlines that they got what they need on terms of staffing due to excesive amounts of people laid off from spainair and others as well, so lets try to confirm that... good luck on your search
Yes it looks slowing down. Especially that thing with the spanish guys ruined it a lot for the others.
I doubt that the Spanair guys had that much to do with this.... How many pilots are EK, EY and QR expecting to take on this year all in all? 1000? How many came from Spanair? How many actually signed up?
1500 my guess-timation....
What happened with Spainair pilots?
@ Payscale - Company bust. Apparently lots interviewed at EK and QR, mainly QR from what I've heard.
Doesnt explain why someone would think the Spanish pilot are ruining it for others??
Don't suspect they ruined anything.....
economy slow downs
I don't think spanish pilots are ruining anything, they are just experience what is common on this industry, it could happen to anyone of us, however the economy is slowing down every where and aviation is not less afected even with the heavy weights from the middle east.
spanair pilots didn't take SOP's serious, tried to take off without flaps and it didn't work out, interviewed many in EK only a few passed
Whilst quite a few Spanair guys have joined QR, it'll be interesting to see how many stay. ;)
Slow down in hiring, you must be joking. Have you not read the various press reports of the requirement for next year?
The operators in the Middle East are not fools! Get your interviews done early. Get your ducks in a row and then train them. Interviews may be slowing down, yes, but thats because the holding pools are full. |
According to what I read about Qatar, with the new 787s entering the fleet, after the first 5 delivered by year end 2012, we can expect 1 new 787 every 3.5 weeks for 4 years (if options are exercised - and they likely will be). Plus, Qatar is adding more A320s and could potentially order the C-Series aircraft from Bombardier in the next 6 months (probably at the next big airshow after Farnborough). So, at least Qatar will have openings in the future...
In the Middle East they have come to the conclusion that from time to time some company somwhere in the world will collapse and there will always be many suitable pilots available.
Goretex What's the ratio, in general, of non-passed and passed in EK assessments? I hear it is quite scary... |
MB2002
From my selection, 37% passed. About 50% fail at the sim check....sittingidly has it right (not going to comment on Spanish guys as I've never flown with any), but there is a difference between qualified and qualified, suitable pilots... |
I think the pass rate for FO's is @50% and for DEC's @20%, more stats for FO's.
My friends who passed talk about much worse rates, but maybe their batches were unlucky.
It was like only 2 out of 9 passed in one case and 3 out of 11 in the other. Similar rates for EY, I hear lately too. Why, if they need so many, are they so picky? i know of a few very good pilots rejected for no valid reason, even adter passing the assessment. The ME is extrange... |
If Spanair anything like Futura I would say the standards are very low...doubt many will pass their training at QR.

You ar an ex-FUA yourself?
