Is Etihad hiring US pilots?
What are the chances of a US pilot being hired at Etihad? I've been looking at both Etihad and Emirates, both seem to be good stable airlines with lots of growth.

Yes, but none apply. And why would you? Read this.

How does housing work with Etihad, do they provide you with villas, or do they just give you an allowance? Will the allowance cover housing suitable for a family with 3 kids?
|
You'll be lucky to get anything within 6 months of start. You'll be living in a hotel. So leave the family behind till you get your place.
With kids in tow you'll eventually get a villa. Rent is HUUUUGE. I dont work there but have researched this airline like hell but found its not worth it for me at this time. With some improvements it could be. |
Much of the info you seek is on their web site
|
Their website says "Housing allowance up to AED 115000 per year," I guess my question is, what can you get for AED 115000 per year?
|
2 bedrooms apartment at best.
|
Well lets see...at current exchange rate 115000 AED is equal to $31313.86 USD.
Just from this you can see that rent is already expensive if they are willing to hand over up to 115000AED you could probably do better with a 1 bedroom apt in Manhattan. It seems though as if renting is a hassle and its better to purchase...most reasonable 1 bedroom apartments or as they say "villas" go for around 110K AED starting but im sure you can find cheaper:rolleyes: |
I think the term "villa" refers to a house and not an apt. I could be wrong though.
|
An Apartment is just that, an Apartment, or some call it a flat. (the British influence) A Villa is either a stand alone house or part of a townhouse complex. Usually 3 or 4 together. You will not get a decent "Villa" for less that 200,000 DHS. The current housing allowance is 120,000 DHS.

Does Etihad and other airlines in the region for that matter frown upon a failed checkride? Tt happened to me years ago but don't know how throurough they go into your background. Not so much of a problem in the states but hearing as though interviews are really selective I'm wondering if it's even worth applying?
|
i would apply if i were u!
they need the guys in the sharp end and there are a million different reasons u could have failed a checkride! go for it. what can they say? NO. and then u lost what?............. good luck:ok: |
Housing allowance is a joke! A bad one!
115K for an F/O and 120K for a Captain. Barely get you a hovel in a bad area of town. Rents have gone up, in some cases over 50% ! Don't even think about asking about the education allowance.... |
They keep coming. There is no shortage of US pilots joining the Gulf airlines ranks. Another one bites the dust... Eos goes bust. Who's next?
