Schools in Dubai
 

Ladies and gentlemen,

I have to choose, for my son's (ages 10 and 12), between Dubai international academy and Deira international school

Would parents of children going to either of these schools mind passing along some information? They have been accepted at both and I also like them both, from tallking to the staff and visiting their respective website.

Where do you live; what housing area/villa?

How far is your commute to these respective schools and do they provide transportation?

Does the EK school allowance cover the current fees?

I can't comment on the quality of either school, but unless you live on Deira side, you would want to avoid inflicting the daily drive to and from the Deira school on your children. (A slight exaggeration), but they'd end up spending almost as much time in transit as at school.

Dubai Schools
 

Do not know anything about Deira International School but do know about DIA. I had my kids going to DIA when it opened and pulled them out before the year ended as they did not deliver on any of the promises. This was two years ago. There was a great lack of discipline and we got the feeling that the principal was not able to run the way he wanted. Suggest you speak to people who have kids there now and visit school while lessons are going on. Things could have changed since then.

Have you considered the American School of Dubai. We have friends that have been teachers there 20+ years and I actually went there in the 80's.

From my understanding, it's a fairly large school. I don't have a lot of info. but it might be worth checking out.

Before making a choice, consider a few points like location and fees vs the EK contribution (that will not cover all the tuition). All schools have a big turnover of staff so one might be ahead in quotes one year and behind the year later. In general you can consider all International schools to be fair to good, a few excellent. Having a choice, I will not send my kids to a GEMS school because of their arrogance and they're in only for the mega profit.
