EMIRATES Recruiting

Whats the latest on Emirates pilot recruitment ? Has anyone received a letter or visited Dubai for an interview recently ?

What is the best guess for recruitment over the next 12 months, and has the projected time to Command slipped back a little now ?

Nite_Flite 14th September 2000 20:29

Nope ....haven't heard yet...
Command time after only 2 years has to slip. I would guess guyes employed today probably have to sit RHS 4-5 years..don't you?

2XL 14th September 2000 22:47

Out of interest, what qualifications are ideal for Emirates these days ?

Could you say if you had X experience you would get an interview.

Informed responses encouraged please.

GA_Stinks 15th September 2000 08:22

I'm not sure of actual hour requirements although I do know they do want at least 2000hrs.
Another key thing to have is Heavy Jet time, an instructor of mine who has a few thousand hrs in Citations was told by Emirates the Jet time is good although the aircraft has to be heavier!
I'm sure others can help more than I can.

* A search of this forum will probably help you alot if your'e looking for EK stuff.

MileHi 15th September 2000 10:18

I recently spoke to one of the drivers, I think he said the requirements are 1000 hours on jet airliners (B737, F28, Bae 146, A320 etc and up). A total of about 4000 is good. Age limit is up to 48/9 now and commands are in 2-3 years. Another rumour doing the rounds is that EK is employing 10 guys a month for the next 2 and a bit years.

2XL 18th September 2000 23:24

A few of my somewhat informed buddies suggested that recruitment had slowed down at Emirates recently. Only the A1 candidates were being courted and the OK candidates put on the go-slow burner just in case.

Any informed thoughts from the inside ?

Nite_Flite 19th September 2000 13:55

Yeps....that seems to be the case. They have recieved 8000+ aplications from the flight adds. So I presume only 35-40 years old jet captains will be courted first. Patience is the word. Hmmmm

2XL 20th September 2000 09:53

If you were a 40 yr old jet Captain with a Major why would you up and off to Emirates. Are they really that good ?

Is it true they use some formula to calculate Command consideration and that it may not be as quick as many people would like to believe ?

Bigwig 21st September 2000 23:02

Command is normally strictly on seniority, subject to suitability, and a minimum total time of 4500 hours. The national cadet pilots join the same seniority list as the expats, and as they have only 300 hours when they join, they take about six years to achieve command. Expats are making it in 2 and a bit years at present, due to the rapid expansion. Emirates treats its pilots well, and as a result get a lot of loyalty in return.

Worth a go for the right type! Good luck.

I really don't know the criteria of Emirates. I know pilots who are A330/340 rated with at least 1500 command time logged in both type ACs and never got hired. Can anyone in Emirates shed light on this.

RRC767 24th September 2000 20:34

For those waiting for the EK reply, just got this via email:

"Dear Mr Carvalho,

Application to join Emirates

I am writing in relation to your application to join Emirates as a First
Officer. We have recently conducted a review of your application and I
regret to advise you that you have been unsuccessful.

I am sorry that this letter does not contain the result that you would wish,
and I regret that I am unable to offer any feedback with regard to your
application. I realise that you may be very disappointed. I would, however,
like to offer my own and the Company's best wishes for your future success
and to thank you for the interest that you have shown in Emirates.

Yours sincerely,

Alison Ward
Assistant Recruitment Manager

This is a computer generated letter and bears no signature.

This is a system generated message, please do not reply."

My experience: 3900 HRS B767 1st Officer
1000 HRS B737 1st Officer
5500 TTL Time.
I think the problem is with the PIC time which I donīt have too much, so be sure their computer is looking first at this parameter before going further and apparently they have plenty of applications with lots of PIC time in heavy jets.
Note that the msg above was computer generated.
Well...will keep on trying somewhere else
Good luck

A mate of mine sent an application to Emirates about 6 weeks ago and still no reply, not even an acknowledgement of receiving the application.

His experience 5000hrs, 3500 multi command, 1000hrs jet F/O 757/767. Only 28 yrs old.

Strange as would have thought these people were A1 candidates for any airline ??????

Djoni Boerhanoeddin 28th September 2000 18:13

Hello Mr.Wanwinglo

I also send an application to EK a few month ago and received the same answer as for our friend Mr.RRC767 I am rated on B747 and total logged 10100 hrs in which 2600 hrs in turboprop and 7500 hrs in jet included 1700 hrs in command in medium non efis jet, but nobody's know's what are really required to joint EK maybe I am to old 47 yrs or there are pilots in their flight operation management are affraid to have others who not from their clique/race

Bigwig 28th September 2000 23:53

Djoni, there are pilots from more than 40 different nations flying for EK, so please don't make silly accusations of racism about one of the most multicultural flight ops departments in the World.

Mach None 29th September 2000 05:01

I just received the computer generated letter stating that my application "will now be kept on hold."
Please update any address or phone number changes and update the application as well.

Good luck all!

Nite_Flite 29th September 2000 16:38

Mee too......update every 6 months please...
sign. A.W.
Keep Cool they will get to us!!

Nite_Flite 30th September 2000 16:29

Interesting thread on "rumours". Command time is bumped up to 6000 hours...from 4500.

wanwinglo 5th October 2000 10:38

Pardon me gentlemen for not being clear. The guys a mentioned above have at least 5000+ PIC from their former equipment whether 747, 737, A300-B4 and with at least 10k TT. The 1k - 1.5k PIC is just in their present equipment A330 or A340. If Emirates needed pilots so badly for their Airbus fleet, these guys will be productive in no time. Just to satisfy Emirates standard, they would probably need a few sim sessions or a check from the CP. You might be right Capt. Djoni, no clique. Then again, everyone seems to be waiting for something, give the company the benefit of the doubt. :)

Slimey Flaps 18th October 2000 23:27

for info - Right to left seat conversion now minm 6000hrs & 4 years with the Company. Suggest that may well increase to 7 years with direct Entry capts coming.
