Dubai is grinding to a halt tomorrow as JB Junior's in town making his way from AUH to DXB. Apparently off to the Burj al Arab where he'll no doubt have to buy a voucher to get in (apologies if that was a secret, the destination bit not the voucher thing). |

Presumably Bush has used his fleeting visit to expound upon the many and varied benefits of Democracy. Soon we shall be enjoying the vote and industrial representation. Naturally the American enthusiasm for people-power would be pushed by them and embraced in kind here.

Indeed. This morning pilots were taking up to 3 hours to get home from flights. Sharjah, Emirates Road and SZR all giant parking lots.
A land of contrasts - yesterday not a vehicle, today a massive used car lot. The glitz and glamour all looked a little false as the basic infrastructure cannot cope with rain! |

You'd have to ask why this bastion of Arab capitalism would shut down for a day so GWB could whisk on through. I mean it's never happened in any other country (to the best of my limited knowledge)
