Emirates breaking UAE Labor Law?
 

THE UAE Labor Ministry is now enforcing a law that requires companies to reduce working hours for all employees during Ramadan by 2 hours per office day.
This equates to 48 hours leave over the month of Ramadan, which can either be used during this time or credited to the employees leave account for use when time permits.
A recent corporate email from HR does not abide by this law and only reduces working hours for muslims.
It is a 10,000 Dirham fine for each violation.
I did attempt to follow the correct chain of command and I did not receive any explaination. The unofficial response was that working hours could be increased by 48 hours over Ramadan to compensate for this law anyway.

Whilst your endeavours to promote equal rights are commendable, I think you'll find that the UAE (and other Islamic countries) will prove a hard nut to crack in this respect. :=

Why not take EK to court, FTA, and see what they say?:}:rolleyes::rolleyes:

DUBAI -- The working hours during the holy month of Ramadan will be shorter by two hours for all private sector employees regardless of their religion or nationality, a senior official of the Ministry of Labour (MoL) has said. Any company found violating this directive will be penalised as per the Labour Law, said Humeid bin Demas, assistant under-secretary of the MoL. A Dh10,000 penalty would be slapped on the violating companies, besides a three-month ban.
The official warned: "If any company is found discriminating between its staff with regard to the shortened working hours on the basis of religion, it will be penalised."
