A380 or not?

What do you guys think? Should one go onto 380 as FO or not? How will this affect your upgrade?

Super Duper 24th July 2007 15:00

Good luck if you are getting a chance to be on the big one, to me that alone is a privilege.

It is obviously a fantastic opportunity to see the new bus and what the new technology is all about.

I was thinking that same thing you are thinking not so long ago, and the following occurred to me:

Being able to carry many Pax means flying from the Gulf to Mumbai, Manila, Dacca, and places like that, I THINK.

I doubt if the 380 would be employed on the European or USA routes as Gulf to these places don’t need a 650 seater. I THINK

But even so, it would be good to experience it.
I don’t think it will do anything for your command, as you would be sent back to the 320 to get first command what ever type you are on.

GOOD LUCK, and all the best :)

I think the 650 seat configuration will only be used to places like BOM, CMB, KHI, possibly DAC and MNL; EK will have three separate configs - one for JFK, which I think is about 479 seats and another for LON, about 500, so there will be an opportunity to try out a number of different routes.

And while I can't say anything about EK's internal workings or how seniority works, I would only echo what Super Duper says; it would be a privilege.

It kind of reminds me of what things must have been like in the late '60s and early '70s in airlines about to receive 747s (also late, in most cases!) - do senior FOs go for the 747 or their first commands? At least an A330 is a little more attractive than a 727 or a 737, but still, a chance to fly the biggest of them all ... that's something to tell your grand-kids about!

ssangyongs 24th July 2007 15:59

is MNL equipped enough to receive the A380s? i dont think so

White Knight 24th July 2007 16:19

Well as far as I know only Bangalore is 380 capable so far in India.. And believe me the airline needs the capacity on MEL,SYD,AKL,MAN,LON(both),JFK,JNB,SIN,BKK etc etc etc. Besides- with such a low seat cost the ticket prices will drop and more people will fly, so the 380'll create it's own business....

dontevenjoke 24th July 2007 18:03

Hey,

Knight, I don't think Bangalore is equipped. I operate there routinely and they are well behind........unless maybe the new airport will be able.

Cheers.
