What's it like to work for Etihad Airways in abu Dhabi ? good packages (compared to Emirates) ? Are they well geared up to accommodate expats (airport management staff) ?
If someone knows pls let me know asap ! cheers !:confused:

I have a few friends flying for Itihad and this is what they say:

• Poor management
• Disorganized
• Group infighting
• No pay for call outs
• No overtime
• Most joiners dislike it after about six months.
• Housing very difficult to arrange and expensive
• Boring life style for the wife
• Not very friendly culture for the wife and kids.

Enjoy the rain, we miss it sometimes! Do your research before jumping, perhaps make a trip out to the Gulf and look around for youself and then decide if this is what you want.....it's not all bad, but it is different :eek:

I came to the Middle East for the experience, the money is an added bonus. I came prepared for it to be a more restrictive lifestyle than back home but it is actually more relaxed than I expected. Bare in mind though that it's easier here for me as a male and that I'm living in a country with a long history of trading with other nations and, therefore, is more tolerant of foreign cultures.

There are other airlines in different parts of the Middle East that are worth approaching for contracts. I hear that Oman Air is expanding and I guess that they'll need crew from somewhere. You might prefer Oman to some of the ME countries further North, definitely more tolerant of women but you will need to follow some simple rules so as to not offend the more conservative locals.

What do I mean? Research! This is a fact, sorry. I didn't mean to be rude.
There is a lot written about all the major 4 plus (KU) Kuwait and Oman (WY).
Try getting into EK and stay with EK. From that point onwards, keep discovering until you find better.

Corrupt, ozzies, poms of the worst sort, locals who are uneducated and arrogant, prostitution and last but not least an ugly city.

From feedback, EK looks better and those who came from there admit it openly and wish they could go back.

Airport services? What airport services? AUH airport is managed by some illiterate Bahraini git who is incapable of writing his name on one line and who appears only when VIP's are in the area to collect his tip.
As you can see, great place to be.

Make sure you find everything out before you jump.
If it was not for the family in school and my mortgage, I would have gone long ago

Sorry I can't agree with that one. I find Abu Dhabi to be for a Middle Eastern city to be clean, well organised and well laid out. The Corniche area is from what I have seen by far the best public space anywhere in the Gulf, and definately isn't ugly. For anyone considering living in Dubai and commuting to Abu Dhabi, come and see both cities for yourself and decide then. Dubai is a hell hole where you either spend a huge whack of your salary paying road tolls or spend half your life in traffic jams. I have lived in Abu Dhabi for 5 years and I find it to be far from ugly and a very liveable city.

As far as hard for women and children to live in, again I have to disagree. Basically it is what you make of it, but most expat wives if they are willing to get of their asses and look for a job can find a part time job where they will integrate into society a lot faster and make new friends. If they don't want to work there are social groups all over the place for mums. As far as kids go as long as they are pre teen age it is a good place to be. For teenagers I would not recommend it as boredom sets in and they do seem to turn into expat brats in a lot of cases.

Don't work for Etihad so have no opinion on their operations, other than saying that they need to train their business class hosties that you don't top up someones wine with a different wine and then shrug you shoulders and say "ah well its nice to try different things".???????

i'll have to disagree with airnoservicesaustralia on prettiness of abu dhabi more than anywhere else in the sandpit. muscat and salalah are far prettier.

I have been based in Abu Dhabi for the last few years and live in Dubai.

Depending on where you live in Dubai its a relatively easy drive to AUH.
From the Dubai Marina Area, SH Zayed runs 4 lanes in both directions, in my opinion one of the best paved and maintained motorways/highways ive driven on. No pot holes, no lights and a max speed of 139.9 to avoid a radar ticket in Dubai Emirate, and 159.9 in the Abu Dhabi Emirate (or so i've been told ) :ok:

The drive takes just under an hour.

Abu Dhabi is a bit behind Dubai as far as options for restaurants / entertainment / night life vs Dubai, but catching up fast with all the development planned.

Frankly, ive just about had it with the Dubai Traffic, and am considerig a move back to Abu Dhabi in the near future. ...

Oh , sometimes they have portable radar traps, but not sure what speed that is triggered at ..

I personally enjoyed AUH most of the place was clean corniche area was superb place for an evening stroll to the city lights...shortage of nice INEXPENSIVE restaurants like Bahrain though....but cheaper transport and convenience made up for it...
