EK and basing..
I know this has been done to death,but do EK pilots hold out ANY hope whatsoever of the company setting up bases. One would think that it will eventually become necessary as they struggle to crew their aggressive expansion plans...particularly in OZ.
:confused: |
The short answer is no.
The longer winded version is ABSOLUTELY NEVER. But then again who knows, with global warming and climate change, Hell may actually freeze over one day??? V |
just forget about that, NEVER NEVER NEVER, :}
The reason.....you wanna know....:ugh: being base in DXB is the only way for them to have a control on you guys:D |
I have had personal experience with TC & I have posed the same question of basings. His answer was that 'He' would never let it happen as the 'company' would lose control of the pilots as they would inevitably form a union and demand their rights which are currently denied, or at least blurred, in the UAE.
Looking at EKs ranking in the airline table of the current Flight mag this month, this policy may be forced into review despite TCs megalomania. Basings will have to be considered as the dis-economies of scale will force the company to consider the spectre of basings as it will simply become too expensive to keep 2, 3, 4 thousand pilots in Dubai... You only have to look at the airlines above EK in the rankings who do offer basings that it is only a matter of time until EK will be forced to do it, not only because of the obvious dis-economies, but also to attract pilots in an increasingly competitive market. |
There are no dis-economies of scale. It is cheaper for EK to have pilots in Dubai compared to Europe of Australia. This is simply because they can get away with lower salaries in Dubai due to no direct taxation. If they had basings the salary would have to increase to a large degree to cover the tax aspect which would largely offset any gains made due to accomodation and education expenses.
There will be no basings due to financial reasons. There is only two possible reasons. The network becomes so complex that it is dictated by crewing/FTL issues or they cannot attract enough pilots. Neither of these issues are significant at this stage. V |
