Rest time at EK

Hi,
could maybe anybody give me information of how much Rest Time you have at EK. For example how many hours rest after a JFK-DXB.On GCAAs
website no information about the rules for rest.
Thanks for your help.

1 day, that means 2 local nights thats it, it's not enough, but the EK is poor

Not Ennough....

Return on the Bus from OZ you will have a rest day plus a Day Off

Regs based much the same as the UK CAP 371 Document which can be found here http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/CAP371.PDF

Company have a Committee set up to review complaints as well as ASR on Fatigue how ever expect to do some ball busting patterns

EK are aware of the problem patterns however experience has shown that it takes as much as a year in the case of the Seoul patterns before the company placed 3 crew on board.

Commercial Department rule's the roost with the line guys left to document the obvious until such time a change is put in place.

If you would like to chuck in the wild card called "Rosters with manual insertion" then all bets are off regarding rest periods.

Thanks for the Infos,
just to make it clear for me.If I arrive for example coming from JFK at 0900LT on Monday in Dubai, the tuesday is my restday and my earliest reporting time is at wednesday.I asks this because I got an offer to start as a FO on the 777 and Im thinking about commuting from Dubai to Frankfurt later.Maybe somebody can give me some infos if it works. How is the chance to get the Ultra Long Range flights if Im not in the top bidding group.
Thanks for your help.

Murky Waters

Nearly correct BB

In your example if you were to arrive at 0900 LT on Monday then Monday would be your rest Day NOT Tuesday

Day off must encompass 2 local nights with a minimum of 34 hours rest u can look up the definition of a local night has some thing to do with including 8 hours rest starting from either 2200 or 0000 hrs and not commencing work before 0600 or 0800.

So you will get a local night on Mon as well as Tues and would be starting work Wed think there may be something about Duty not commencing before 8am if this the case then pick up from your big shiny brand new Villa will be at 05:45 ( 2 hours and 15 minutes before sign on) Wednesday

Ultra Long Haul Flights have therir own rules.

Dont forget to factor in our middle managers who also have their own interpretations of the FOM and FTL's as well as the company flying you over 900 Hours a year...oops then you get the next month off ...

well not so simple now we have an FCI that says that even though you have the next month off because we have flogged the living be- jesus out of you for the past 12 months we still want and will roster you for simmulator support duty, but we do recognise that you must be a little knackerd so we are not going to roster you for any late night early morning simm duties..instead we can roster you for up to 5 duties in the month that we are giving you off to recover.

Hey can any one remember a few years ago after the Factoring Hours stuff up Management said ... " we have checked all pilots Flying Times and No Pilot is over 900 hours" now the norm is to fly you up to the max allowed hours per year even though this is a legal limitation for EK this is now a target.

Look forward to arriving at the company sign on nearly 2 hours before a flight and on the crew bus 1 hour and 15 minutes before Flight departure even though Official Crew sign in is 1 hour before Flight Departure ( Cabin Crew its 90 Minutes Flight Crew 60 Minutes) so u should factor that in to your planned sked.

When u arrive back in Dubai after an ultra long haul flight some times u are given a remote stand with no wheel chair facilities and have to wait and wait and wait....even though your duty period ENDS after turning off those big noisy engines. For purpose of calculating your subsequent rest period then 30 minutes is added to this time even though you will not sign off on the company computer until 1 hour after you pulled on to the stand and have been doing duties associated with work.

Do some more research and search this web site using the words JFK Emirates EK and Flight Duty Times and Captains Discretion to see how tight the crewing issue is and how our company deal with it.

Having said all the above the rosters on the Boeing are like chalk and cheese with the Bus fleet . As the Company is going Boeing then expect this to change and enjoy those Rosters while you can.

Couple of days ago Rostering was looking to crew nearly 20 flights at 2000 hrs for the following day.

Wonder if the powers that be at the top of the date tree ever get to here this or just the 29 % increase in profits based on the same time frame last year.

Try asking some of those curly ones at your interview.

Spot on uplock.

just to clarify.

Sign in is ONE hour before some like to call it REPORT time!!

This is what is used as the start time for your duty!! And your FDP(max flight duty period is calculated from this time!! )

Company picks us up from Accomodation 2hrs 15 mins before report time plus ONE hour. In many cases arriving at briefing up to 2hours before departure!! OR 1 hout before your OFFICIAL report time which is used for !!!!!!!!!! See above paragraph!!

Official GCAAor CAA documentation or FOM or FLIGHT OPERATIONS MANUAL has us completing our flight briefings and crew briefings and ON the CREW bus going to the aircraft 75mins before departure time OR 15 mins before our REPORT time which as we now know is used to calculate our !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you guessed it out MAX FDP or max flight duty period.:D

So the company gets away with approx 30 to 40 mins every flight!! can you see the big numbers !!!:=

Commuting Rosters

This topic has been brought up many times in the past. If your intent before joining is to commute back home, even to Europe, I would seriously reconsider. There are few, if any, according to my knowledge that are remotely successful at any semblance of life while trying to commute out of Dubai. Even if you managed on occaison to get a short string of days off (perhaps only one of those a month -in your top bid months) you will be confronted with lack of seats and a stressful return. This is in addition to the lack of quality time at home due to fatigue. That aspect is bad enough living in Dubai, I could only imagine using your precious time off to get back in an airplane to spend an even more limited amount of time with family and friends.
The company now uses the rostering system to it's advantage (commercially that's why they bought it!) to ensure as many flights possible are covered with the available crews -they simply don't have the crews to cover them all. They rely on pilots working into their days off to crew as many remaining flights as possible. You will see a mix of efficient ULH/LH flights mixed with non-productive longer layover flights to equalize the hours and days off rostered.
The long and short of it? Commuting won't work if you want a life.
If you choose to accept, good luck on the ...the "training"!!:ooh:

commute is not supported by EK.. you can check this in the FAQ section at EK website:ugh: Sorry
