Emirates Airline
can anyone tell me about the life style in dubai and living in the company provided housing? would you leave an F/O 320 job in the U.S for a job with EK? and what about the flying, is it enjoyable? is the contract renewable after 3 years or are you at risk....?
|
when the salary increases by 100% it will be the best job, at the moment you are wasting your time and a considerable amount of your life by not living in your home country..........
|
The answer to most of your questions is going to be very individual. There is lots of information here and elsewhere, so try a search.
The answer to this bit, however:- is the contract renewable after 3 years or are you at risk....? |
If you keep your nose clean, it`s a job till retirement. Do you really want to leave the US for the sandpit, for few dollars more! You`ll be selling your dignity and safety of your family too :=

Erm,
Joe Monsoon, try learning to spell correctly before posting next time. Your comments would then appear slightly more intelligent than at present. QB |
The high dollar days in the middle east have passed quite some time ago, as many at EK have found out, much to their displeasure, I'm sure.
Look before you leap, least you find yourself trying a long walk on a short pier.... |
411A Sound advice although I suspect your reasons for posting here are somewhat less than altruistic.

EK
I guess I will ask one question at atime....
are you guys happy with the company provided housing?..please describe... |
EK 2
are you happy with the flying? what is upgrade time? any contract duration?
|
EK 3
are you able to save any $ after all living expenses?

KMK,
Don't expect to have everything handed to you on a platter! Take some own initiative and do some (re)search in the Forum and you'll have all the answers you need to make up your mind! To sum it all up: EK...a good place to stay away from! And the rest in the ME aren't much better, bar one or two! Cheers, Ikarus :-) |
Hi KMK,
replies to your questions will obviously be varied in response, as EK suits some and not others. I do not know the deal with your current job on the A320 in the states, so cannot comment on whether to leave or not. Perhaps some guys who were in a similar situation can comment. If you keep your head down here you will have a job for as long as it suits you. Company housing that i have seen from visiting friends has been fine, but does seem to vary on size and quality depending on who you talk to. I was fairly fortunate to be allocated a villa that i was shown around during the interview process, and being perfectly honest is too big for my family of two adults and one young child. Its on a nice, fairly secure compound, with all the facilities one would expect, pool gym etc. The type of flying that i bid for suits me, but i would imagine the majority would prefer not to be picked up from home at 0100 ish. 5 rotating bids groups, of which the success rate for my bids is pretty good for the top 3. Upgrade for me, from date of joining, till final command line check took 37 months and five days. I do not know what it is at the moment, but imagine it is still pretty close to that figure on the B777. The airbus upgrades seem to be running at 46 months, assuming you do not meet the accelerated criteria. Perhaps an Airbus guy would be better placed to answer that question. I manage to save some money each month, not as much as i would like, but still more than i did back home. Overall, its not a bad job, no better or worse than back home, and will do for the meantime until something better comes along. Hope that helps. |
