Could anyone please recommend a nice hotel "on the beach" in Abu Dhabi ?

Must be on the beach !!

I recommend Al Wathba Hilton, it's located just outside Abu Dhabi.

Great clientele, and room service is just the best, try the Biryani if I were you, it's wicked.

Wickkkkkked! Better than anything I ever had before.

The nicest spot in town for quality, convenience to the Abu Dhabi shopping mall and more importantly the pubs! is the Beach Rotana....the Brauhaus German pub in the hotel serves the best Beer and Pork knuckle you can find in the Middle East :E

Try the Armed Forces Officers Club

A beautiful place to stay, on the beach in AUH, so many faclilities you'd need a week there to really appreciate the scale of the place.
Great staff, great food and lots and lots of GF staff sitting around in the reception for hours on end waiting for their rooms only too happy to sit there and chat with you about the splendours of the accommodation and how happy they all are waiting in such comfortable chairs whilst their rooms are prepared for them.

A truly amazing place.

Gulf Hotel
Used to be good, fairly comfortable, beach bar. No waves, but nice beach. Not sure now, but it used to be the main hotel for Gulf Air crew on layover in AUH. Crew discount, was good. Don't know if it does for other airlines. Ranch bar was pretty good.

Armed forces hotel?? "Guantanamo Bay" nice facility, but beach??? harldy!!! not very "party friendly either.....avoid it!!

Emirates Palace Hotel, 7-Star if you can afford it....
