Yachting in Dubai
Does anyone know if there are any restrictions on bringing a boat into Dubai? I start class in August with Emirates and would like to ship my sailboat over and stay on her temporarily. I'm also looking for a place to keep her if anyone has any suggestions. She is a Tartan 4100, sloop rig and am open to any suggestions on cruising, and where to keep her.
Thanks!:8 |
As long as it is not manufactured in Israel I don't think there are any import restrictions on yachts for personal use. Live aboard is another matter. Do a search for Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) , Jebal Ali Marina. These are the only live aboard marinas that I know of. Expensive and also not close to work.

Thanks for the info!!

living on board your yacht in the summer heat might not be a good idea - unless you install some form of airconditioning.
Also, the coastline round here is basically one long sandy beach so not many interesting spots to drop anchor at, apart from the east coast and oman which is at least a day's sailing away. Would suggest you scout around the place a bit before shipping her over. The place seems more suitable for day cruising in a speedboat as petrol is still relatively cheap. Good luck! |
I just want to echo the comments above about the temperature. It will be unbearable living on board during most parts of the year.
It's 11:28am when I am currently making this post, and the outside ambient (admittedly 7kms inland and not coastal) is 114deg F!!!!! Don't know how practical it will be to kit out your boat with AC. By the way, if you are starting training with EK in August, don't they imediately give you acccommodation or an allowance for the same? What will you start`training as? Good Luck with it anyway. Try DOSC (Dubai Offshore Sailing Club), a few Emirate sFlight Deck crew have sailing boats moored up there. Location wise, its also nearer than Jebel Ali and DIMC mooorings to where you'll most likely be living. Know that there is an website for DOSC, sorry not sure what the address is though. Probably best just to type it inot a search engine. Hope the above helps.

DOSC don't allow live aboard. (more than a night to shake off the hang over any way)

A Day's Sailing to Oman?????
Possibly if you trade the sails for the engines from the open class "Victory" racing boat and strap on a g-suit!
:p PS Caution the Iranian smuggler boats on the way through the Straights of Hormuz!! |
