Qatar To Melbourne From Dec 04

QR will start ops to MEL in Dec 04, using Airbus A332. Can the A332 fly directly from DOH to MEL with a full load? Any pilots out there who could confirm?

I was under the impression that this aircraft could not undertake such a routing directly unless severely restricted in payload.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

It's an interesting question. Great circle track from Doha to Melbourne is approximately 6,600 nm's. That's right on Airbus's stated limit (see graph). http://www.airbus.com/img/product/a3...a200/table.gif One thing's for sure. It might get there without stopping but there's no way it will get back to Doha most months of the year.

You don't reckon EK put a 340-500 on that direct route for nothing do you?

Have read else where that QR will route that run via asia, as does EK with the 777-300 through Singa's.

The 777 could go direct but without a full load, which as far as freight is concerned is very important out of MEL.

Speaking of great circle...that is all very well but does not allow for flexibility to take advantage/avoid enroute weather.

Have QR signed up for flex tracking in Oz FIR like EK?

Does the great circle meet ETOPS criteria?

It will be a flight through colombo or a downline station intransit to Melbourne.

Qatar Airways would play in encouraging tourism between Australia and Qatar and the Middle East. Akbar revealed Qatar’s massive $6bn tourism master plan, which includes the establishment of several luxury hotels, world-class museums and other upmarket tourism projects. Australian and the Qatari officials agreed that working side by side would help increase tourism in both countries, apart from the obvious commercial and economic benefits.

So, never mind the graph! if Akbar say's we'll fly...that means... we'll fly! nice graphic presentation though, but show it Akbar.

Cheers

I heard this flight is via Kuala Lumpur. Lay over at KL, if it`s true, it will great! There`s always plenty of load from KL to SYD,MEL,PER.
