Ek Or Qr

Hello all

are their any iranian or lebanones currently working as flight officer with EK or QR. I was told they would not hire anybody from these two country's. any truth to that. if so do you know why? thanks for you help..

Bealzebub 7th February 2004 04:03

I was going to ask what a "lebanone" was, but I am more curious what a "flight officer" is ?

qatarpilot123 7th February 2004 09:12

We have both pilots and flight attenants from Iran and Lebanon at QR.

I realize sometimes spelling counts, but I think the US guy was just trying to find out if any airline in that region intentionally would not employ people from XX country for political reasons. I think he was really asking where the bulk of the pilots come from.

Flight Officer is a more generic term to mean pilot. It may be used more in North America than other regions. I venture a guess that people not from North America may not realize a few terms that are far from descriptive and have different meanings.

Engineer outside of the US use engineer completely differently than most of the world.

Second Officer in the US means something totally different than most of the Asian countries use.

Flight attendant is used more often than cabin crew depnding on what area of the world one is in.

And ask someone in the US what a BAY is and they'll tell you it is some place you DON'T want to land unless you have a seaplane.

So you guys gotta play together in the sandbox a little better accepting each other.

I think he asked because he was just tryng to figure out the SUPPLY of pilots to certain places in the world. Most places in the world do not have houses on live-on airports, a tremendous supply of pilots banging around in Pipers and Cessnas in high school and colege, and many businessmen with their own airplanes. Hence, his question.

Thanks Jim,

The next time I meet a Flight Officer from Lebaninia I will know what they do. ;)

typhoonpilot 7th February 2004 20:08

Mistah Kurtz 7th February 2004 20:21

I see where your glorious leader George dubyah gets it from

Jim Morehead 7th February 2004 22:47

Welll....I did not vote for him. <bfg> But he is the elected dude.

One more chance in November.

I realise what might happen and I realize that a Democrat might win.

P.S. What was this topic about? Oh yeah; Answer: EK and QR do not discriminate against anyone, even Sherman Tanks get jobs!!

ironbutt57 9th February 2004 14:55

Good ole George Dubya..kinda like "nuecular" power as well?

Cerberus 18th February 2004 12:22

Just Checking,

I know that there are differences between the packages; i.e. EK have a profit share, QR have a gratuity. There are also differences between lifestyles in the 2 countries and cost of living.

Putting all that on one side for a second, can I check out the starting basic pay and see if I am right. (1 AED=1QR as both tied to USD)

EK F/O 16670 AED for an 84hr month before overtime
QR F/O 14k + 70/Hr = 19280

EK Capt 23920
QR Capt 20k+100/Hr = 28400

It seems to me that QR pay 16% more for a F/O and 19% for a Capt; basic quaranteed pay. Depending on who you believe either airline could be Paradise or the entrance to Hades. But surely a QR mate must be saving more in Doha than an EK mate in Dubai all things being considered

On purely financial terms, you are probably right!!

Obviously the 2 countries are different, I like DXB but I know the odd person that prefers Doha, scary. Its interesting the stats without our profit share. Although we did well last year and hope to this year that historically hasn't been the case.

I think we lucked in because the profit targets were set artificially low compared to capacity increases. First due to 911 and then this year the war and SARs.

Sadly, I'm not sure it will continue and with the current exchange rate things will look even worse. The salaries have dropped by over 20% in Sterling or Euro terms over the last 3 years and it looks as if it is going to get even worse.

Utoh,
