Hey great idea, why not lets have a mini Pprune bash at the Sherlock Holmes around say...19:30 on Friday(tomorrow) ..betcha some of us will be there..:} :} :} :ok:

the last Bash had a tremendeous impact on the waiters of the Country Club.....guess you need to block the whole bar area...also I will never come again....sadly....

What do you guys discuss at the "meeting", before heading to the bar? Is there any type of agenda, or is it just a point to congregate before heading to the bar!!!!!

Mainly the topic of discussion will be what beer to have:O

I don't think you were present at the meeting!!!
Ironbutt57 was right, it was indeed enlighting.
More than 45 pilots and/or their wifes were present and a rep. of the GATU as well.

Before the meeting the pilots were only individuals, stuck with this VBA issue, now there is a group of solidary colleagues.
An e-mail network has been set up where information to and from pilots is distributed.
And last but not least, the Union is now aware of the problems the 767 pilots have to face, and are working on this now as well.
Don't underestimate their legal powers.

Times are changing....
And if GF thinks that pilots won't run away, and they can easily hire new ones, I wound't bet on it.
The reputation of this region is not wel known amongst the expats, and now after this sad Saudi bombing.....
Management should be happy with their guys now.
Most of the 767 pilots have shown their commitment to the company for many years now and the least you would expect is respect.

People are realy getting fed up.

Noting your statement that the proposal offered to the pilots is an avarage deal, I can only conclude that you are or a person with a comfortable management position, or somebody who does not know much about this problem!

Never heard of it. And personally, I think not many pilots are aware of the existence of such a book.

Actually I do not care much, because if something isn't fair, it isn't.
If my husband would be dismissed because he attended this meeting, go ahead.
Probably many have this attitude by now.

Even though this VBA issue is likely not going to affect our family life, we still support the efforts being made by those who organised this meeting.

Just wondering if the book of "standing orders" would beat the Labour Law...........

Not too sure about this standing order thingy..meeting was attended by management who were invited, and participated, and who also realized the meeting was for constructive purposes, for the benifit of the company and the crews involved..wait two categories??? the crews ARE the company, the employees are THE company, it takes everybody...maybe herein lies the problem..the company leaders fail to grasp this concept..the GF trade union is working feverishly to support the company leaders, and the company employees involved to make this a successful operation, and to guarantee the successful recovery of GF, which hinges partly on the successful operation of Gulf Traveller. But too many complications were either overlooked, or ignored by the people involved in setting up the AUH basing.

A new era, a new look.
Well you can say that; pilots with grumpy faces, is that the new look?

Yes you are right. If GF management decides to get rid of the trouble makers, they could do so. I think everybody is aware of this possibility.
However, it would create more hatred and demotivation amongst the pilots towards GF, and might make them even more willing to fight for their rights. Last but not least, this won't solve the problems.

Ignoring the problem, could also be an option, but now because of this new era, there is the Union with more possibilities than the individual pilot. If they have to persevere, (finally) media will be involved and this is no good for GF.

Another option is that both sides get together and through communication, find a compromise. The pilots will feel more respected and will be more motivated. Motivation might be important; what if they e.g. decide not to work on days off anymore????
A compromise will work in the best interest of both GF and the pilots.
Perhaps this has never happened in the past, but remember; The new era...... and one team one dream....

The decline of destinations/blocks cancellation of leave, flying on days off etc...has been accepted by many for many years now, because one knows that everywhere you'll find (some of) these inconveniences.
Unfortunately, for many this VBA issue is the last straw.

I've been told that there are Bahraini pilots, working for GF over 20 yrs with management experience, are thinking of leaving; They just find the deal offered unacceptable, even though this VBA base won't affect them because of their seniority.

The VPO is considered to be a wise man, and the pilots respected the fact that he was pressent at the meeting.However, I doubt in wich respect operations is responsible for the package offered. This might be a HRS problem, and they don't seem to respond....
Hopefully it is indeed a new era, and are those with influence at the HQ willing to find a reasonable solution for all.

Not sure when this DHL incident occurred, but when the 757 operated in DHL livery, it was aussie reggo, with AWAS/Nordstress pilots initially, then afterward crewed bya a mix of both, some DHL pilots seconded to AWAS, and some AWAS employees..it went "dry apr 2002, and was lost in the midair july 1'st 2002.sectors now under the control of DHL europe..if they want to "cull" a few expat pilots, so be it, nothing can stop them, it is their company, but they seem to have no inclination to do so, on the contrary, as mentioned above, the VPO seems to be very keen to work with the pilot group, to sort out the difficulties involved in moving families to AUH, human resources has gone silent for the time being though..nobody is refusing to do anything, but the details haven't been sorted out as to how and where yet, that is all..the trade union is sanctioned, and legalized by the government, as of about a year ago or so, and is working with the compaqny to resolve these issues, not against it..so "scanscanscan" do not attempt to paint a picture of conflict where none exists..haggling over details..yes, fighting the company's efforts to resolve these issues, no..
