Gulf Air CEO's qualifications

Page 59 of the 'Bahrain Confidential', the magazine on the events, etc. in Bahrain, gives the 'Vital Statistics' of the CEO of Gulf Air.
His education is listed as "HSC, Marketing Studies at Chisholm Institute, Australia".
Do I understand that the boss of Gulf Air did not attend college?

So what's your point? Al Hamer had a degree and we saw what happened there.

TAF Oscar 20th Sep 2002 12:05

Hear hear, Capt. Snails. I'll take a manager with motivation and experience over one with a briefcase full of pretty certificates any day. It's all about attitude, not which college you did or didn't go to.

Word has it that once the flying chefs started to fly on the LHR route, Hogan gave orders not to upgrade any staff to first class anymore. Is this true, and if so, is this a permanent thing? It will be interesting if this then extends to CDG and FRA. In such a case, the only GF staff allowed to sit in First Class would be Hogan himself. Not very clever if this is true regardless of his qualifications.

Speedbrake Lever 20th Sep 2002 23:01

Yeah maybe you should John.

The Initial publication said No one without Monsieur Hogan's approval who is Staff can go First class till Sept 30th but we all know that is a precursor to Eternity
and that includes everyone.

And listen I've nearly done as many years as you and only once have I got into a " Lounge" because I knew the bloke I was talking to (ex Cabin Crew)

They are upgrading fare paying Business C;lass to First to get the new service but only if the First is empty or has just the one or two pax already in it

You must stop praising BA as if Butter wouldn';t melt in their mouths, its all a game and you should know that,

Here's a question for al you GF chaps,

How is the company doing at the moment?

On one hand I hear rumours about a lot of pilots running away , 14 years for experienced FOs to reach command if ever, very low loadfacators on almost all the destinations, low morale...

And on the other hand there are people saying that GF will be even better of when Qatar leaves the alliance, the regional jets are cancelled because of future expansion plans,.....even some rumours about again adding some airbusses to the fleet!

To be honest, I can not follow anymore so please shed some light here...

Grazie mile!

GF status

From what I hear GF is improving, morale is up and this new CEO is doing okay.

Hogan is doing it in sytle, it will be a good airline once the restructring is done.

Sadly same cannot be said about QR. Morale is really down and staff are demotivated. I met someone who said the morale in commercial is very very low, and as a result a wave of resignations from top, talented managers. the reason... the new autocratic, dictator style management by the new head of commercial. AAB is unable to do anything due to family ties with this individual.

It is only time before GF becomes better than QR and in fact over take QR again. I hear that some senior managers from commercial are joining GF.

Good luck to all. QR... get your act together.

Load Factors for the last 3 weeks have been between 62-74% fleet wide

As regards promotion we have a few but very few retirements
so there is small movemnet but remember a lot of the Capt's here
are under 40 so we're not full of Old chaps , we have a few alright but they still have a few years left
Morale has picked up a bit alright but still needs to get better but maybe it will
There's more of an upswing than a downswing

More Airbusses well that was the plan - but Mr. Boeing is having serious talks,
Watch this space it'll take a little time but I think you may find the 777 here,
well thats a rumour.

Pay Rise - in the pipeline !! and there's lots of pipelines out here

But GF is after First class and Business class nowadays QR are the middleEastern what ya call it --- Bucket and Spade brigade
at least thats the perception and they're ok at that apparently.

You want to go to the Far East, Kathmandu, and the Sub Cont i think QR will give you the cheapest
