FlyDubai calls back all pilots and crew

Well done FlyDubai! I am sure they are all very happy with this! They are commencing training and working starting June 2021. All staff have received emails.

Seems like there is work for smaller airframes! Good news for them, but what does it mean for the bigger, thirstier machines?

fatbus 11th May 2021 18:03

How many were on LWOP?

fatbus 12th May 2021 01:24

Glad to hear the recalls !

BTAP 20th May 2021 15:23

Very happy for the guys and gals - congrats! Hopefully we start to hear better news on the other side of the airfield...

Whole fleet is flying again

I heard that FD is flying all their jets now, can we expect them start hiring process anytime soon ?

donpizmeov 16th Jul 2021 21:48

They just cancelled 65 maxes didn't they?

B737ngmax 17th Jul 2021 01:26

Yes they did, but they still have over 150 on order and taking delivery of 11 more of them by end of this year. So their fleet should be close to 67, unless they decide to replace their NG's.

Hueymeister 17th Jul 2021 02:45

Any change to TnC’s?

Guided accordingly 22nd Jul 2021 03:37

T's n C's

Effectively a pay cut due to the following :

Pilots and cabin crew have mandatory rotational unpaid leave ( RL) for the foreseeable future. Crew are divided into three groups (A,B,C.) The groups are rotated, ie Group A takes unpaid leave Jan, April, July, Oct etc etc. those returning from Unpaid leave appear exempt from RL at present ( though I stand to be corrected.)

Housing allowance has been reduced by 10% (though housing costs in Dubai are increasing.)

Transport allowance has been reduced by 5%

Annual Leave tickets can no longer be cashed in for equivalent cash value.

Crew scheduling is operating in so called 'contingency mode' since last year. No Bidding, No requested days off, No trip swaps. Changes to rostering are anticipated in the future, though exactly how has not been made clear.

B737ngmax 22nd Jul 2021 04:27

It still sound better than majority of other carriers out there.
Any idea about their recruitment plan in near future especially about those in waiting pool ?

nimrodjoe 22nd Jul 2021 06:43

Did flydubai not make any redundancies ? How many did Emirates make ? 2000?

donpizmeov 23rd Jul 2021 14:27

Great news to see people called back. Well done Fly Dubai on handling this mess.

Fired600 23rd Jul 2021 19:25

Seems that they handled it far better than EK just across the road. It’s amazing Fly Dubai and Qatar are calling people back, yet Emirates the big shiny one (so they tell us) hasn’t brought any pilots or, crew that were made redundant.

nimrodjoe 23rd Jul 2021 22:07

I do think that Emirates will offer all of their redundant pilots their job back before recruiting externally.

There was over 5 times more redundancy in Emirates alone than all the European legacies added together and yet I have heard a lot of moaning from people here about taking pay cuts when they had busy rosters ,moaning the 380 is taking the good flights back! and we still have trainers swagging about like nothings happened, telling us we are lucky to have a job!

Recently flew with a fat little local who would not accept that the uae is on the Uk red list . “All political habibi!” Were we not transiting passengers to the UK from countries that we wouldn’t even let stop in the uae on the way for many many months? I’m sure they have the data.

Because those airlines aren't calling back pilots to operate an aircraft that is just simply not needed right now given the patchy recovery that's taking place. Large markets like Australia feeding through to Europe, India feeding US and South America feeding the Far East simply just can't sustain an A380 when the loads are so low. Why on earth would EK operate an A380 to Australia for only 15 pax because of government restrictions, carries less freight and burns almost 2.5 times more fuel than a 777? The UAE has banned transiting traffic from India so there goes your pax for the US and most countries have banned entry for people who have been in Brazil and other parts of South America.

The A380 certainly has a place in the EK network, unfortunately just not at the scale where it once was. If (and that's a big if) Australia opens up at the end of this year or beginning of next, be assured the A380 will most certainly be needed.

I know I sound insensitive, but that's just the cold hard reality. The operating economics of the A380 rely on heavy load factors to make it work. But when you have a network that relies on connectivity and countries are still under lockdown, loads are patchy which doesn't work well for the spreadsheet.

But, there are signs of green shoots in recovery. Hopefully they blossom soon.

Fired600 25th Jul 2021 06:28

Fuel-Off , I hear what you are saying about the A380.There is however another fleet and from my understanding they are flying their buns off. The 777 guys were not offered any LWOP and have lost further pilots in the last 12 months despite the pandemic. Yet seemingly no return of redundant 777 pilots despite AAR stating nearly all the 777 pilots are now flying (well if you only count the ones not sacked, so that’s a stretch of the truth)

nimrodjoe 25th Jul 2021 08:59

Fuel off misses the point every time

He writes a couple of paragraphs about close to nothing every couple of weeks to give himself a sense of authority for another few days.

Rosters are busy lots of locals are earning their wings

Fuel-Off 25th Jul 2021 09:24

And nimrodjoe picks petty, rambling, incoherent arguments with flippant comments with pretty much anyone. Now be a good troll and head back to the bridge you crawled out under from.
