Returning to EK
Hi all,
I recently met an ex EK pilot by chance. He told me he is thinking about going bak to EK but wasn't sure if he has to apply as a new joiner or what. I told him I had no idea about how to proceed. Anyone has an idea about who to ask or where is it written? PD: He left in good terms. Thanks in advance |
Pass the butter and salt!

I have a friend who went back at the beginning of the year. He had to apply as anew joiner, do all the interview process and the entire training again. I hope that helps |
Im thinking of resigning and reapplying lol it seems those with experience on type now join half way up the payscale |
It took me 4 months to get a normal sleeping pattern again. I would have to be really desperate to consider a return.
Several guys have returned, all for their personal reasons, which I respect. I'll never say never but I can definitely say "Highly unlikely". |
Thanks, do you remember how long since he left?. I heard you keep your seniority if you come back before 1 year.

A few have chosen to return to the region recently (Ryan Air/Norwegian/etc) and have chosen not to return to EK but to join QR. That should tell you everhiting you need to know... OW |
Perhaps, mostly for the money

I'm obviously ignorant of the specifics but in this day and age rejoining EK. Wow! One muss be really desperate... |
One must be equally desperate to join QR... same **** different name. |

Perhaps, mostly because EK wouldn’t take them back and QR pretty much takes anyone with a pulse? |

I think most genuinely honest Ex EK bods will tell you that the place sucks the life and soul out of you in a variety of ways, armed with this knowledge I’d argue that you can in theory mitigate a lot of that. Does that mean I’d personally contemplate returning to EK? never in a million years would I get to that point because simply speaking there is nothing worth or worthy at EK that could get close to tempting me. Yes a few have returned, many are from Southern African failed states along with a few victims of circumstance who have been left without a chair when the music stopped. The numbers returning as far as I’m aware is minuscule but good luck to them, at least they are making a truly informed decision. |

Which should inform everyone of what circumstances are like in those "Southern African failed states", should it not?

If you type in Emirates and British Airways into LinkedIn you can see how many have gone from one to the other. I counted 6 from BA to EK. 3 EK to BA. |

People leave and come back for all sorts of reasons but I wonder how many go to get their hands on the provident fund because they need the money for whatever reason, then come back because they didn't really want to leave (or had nowhere to go) in the first place?

First world problems. Long wait times to command are normal at national carriers and that's the price you pay to live in a half decent country and not the arse end of the world like Dubai.

Not sure about under performing funds since you have a wide selection of options. A large majority needed the cash to give half away only to return to the Pit! |

Having lived in both the UK and Dubai I'm genuinely uncertain as to which one you are referring to as half decent and which one the arse end....
