Qatar Airways CEO to leave the Airline
Information and talks in the industry have now (since the past 3 months) been very well confirmed that Qatar Airways CEO Mr. Akbar Al-Baker will be assigned by the Qatar Government for a new task.
It is expected that in Oct 2002 (after an exact 5 years work in QR), Mr. Al-Baker will take over the full responsibility of the new Airport project. Qatar has for the past 33 years (since 1969) been trying to build a new airport (a new airfield). Until now, millions of $ have been spent on consultants and advisors who come and go over the years and the best they could do was build small models of the terminals, collect their fees and go away. Doha airport is viewed by Qatar as a shame for the name of Qatar for many years. Now it has come the time to change it. While Mr. Al-Baker was involved in the project (along others) since early Jan 2001, now it seems that he will be given the green light and the stick to change things. The question remain, who will run the Airline next??? It is expected that an Amiri Order will be publicly announced in October (i.e. after summer holidays when all are back home). Rumours spreading that Sheikh Nawaf Al-Thani who is a relative of the Chirman and also of the Managing Director will take the CEO post. He is currently working as a management trainee in QR finance department (between 29-32 years old). There is no information, data or details on his aviation management backgrounds. |
29-32years old, and you are wondering what aviation management experience he has. Ha Ha
|
You will be surprised what people can do.
I know aircraft commanders in their twenties!! |
I sure hope that Nawaf Al-Thani is experienced enough to take the place of Al-Baker
|
I assume you mean Sheikh Nawaf bin Jassim Al-Thani. I never new he was a trainee in QR. I was wondering if you think he is upto the job.
I am sure that Al-Baker would be missed, although by searching for previous posts on Qatar Airways you'll find that he has a bad reputation which I never understood why he got. |
Akbar Al-Baker
Despite his reputation MT, Al-Baker WILL be missed. Certainly in the Commercial and business sense.
|
I dont know how all of this is going to affect the company. The GM-Commercial changed twice within a year and now the CEO.

Stability
Perhaps with a new man at the helm (excuse the maritime ref) there will be a different approach and a period of stability with fewer comings and goings...........
By the way, I am just a little bit sceptical about this. I remember that the same news was around about 2 years ago.....i.e. that AAb was leaving to go to the then DIAPC, and it never came off. Sure, there was a period of around 2 months when his involvement at qr was minimal. but then he came back and...........well, we know what happened. Let's see what happens this time. I sure hope that for one thing, the staff turnover and morale improves. |
Dear MTQatar
1. What does "MT" mean in your name? Let me give you an example: Lets say that you have a team and you want to win the cup. You are the manager of the team and you see the players everyday. You can see that some don't come for training, you see one who claims that he is the best player in the world that's why he cannot attend a training session because his girlfriend has a party! - Will you want discipline? - Will you want that all be treated equally? If you will get a bad reputation because you are doing your job then there must be something wrong with the others. |
Hello Riscy,
Not to be misunderstood, I am a big fan of Akbar Al-Baker and think that that his managment style is the best way to prevent a mess such as the GF situation in happening. If you reread my post you will find out that I say that I don't understand why he got this bad reputation because I always thought that his management style is exactly what is needed for an airline like QR. Please Riscy do a search for the term "Qatar" and see how some users consistently bash AAB. |
What does "MT" mean in your name? |
A300Man or Riscy,
I am wondering if you have any more info regarding the CEO. People I spoke to said they don't anything about it, I don't know if they genuinly don't know anything or if they don't want to reveal what they know. |
MTQatar - hello. Hope you are well.
I was initially very sceptical about the whole thing and have had everyone I know at QR denying all knowledge - even those who sit just a few metres from his seat. However, one long standing QR Senior Manager has told me that he WILL be stepping down later in the year to oversee the new airport completion. My guess is that he will develop a split role, still being involved with QR as well as the DIA, and obviously being close to the new CEO for a fairly long transition period. |
Qatar Airways CEO to leave the airline.......yeah, no wonder. He's probably bored to tears having read all this continual drivel that appears here about his company.
You Qatar fanzone, give it a rest.....it's boring the living hell out of some people You EK 340-500 wind your neck in. If it bores you don't read it. You register today & then go on a flame fest. Bad move; leave my regulars alone; intelligent conversation and comments welcomed. 4HP |
Folks please remember to read the red text at the bottom of the page.
Everything is not always what it seems to be. I can divulge that our new flame artist, EK A340-500 with chips on both shoulders, is posting from the same location as Jennie Blonde, well known anti-QR soapbox star. Maybe even the same person. Any more vitriol from that IP address & I'll plug that hole permanently. 4HP |
A300Man,
Thank you for confirming. Isn't it not healthy for QR to go through these changes, the GM's are changing, CEO changing, staff changing. I think that in the best interest of the company someone else, maybe from the CAD should head the airport project or it should be the same as EK and have the CEO head of the airport and airline. EK345, The CEO of QR has a job to please the Shareholders, Passengers and Employees. He has done well with the first two which is an achievment in itself, especially with an airline so small and also for the first 6 years of existense has had no government backing unlike other carriers in the region. He may not have a clean record with his employees (many though respect him and enjoy their jobs with QR) but he does deserve some credit for his achievments with the airline. You Qatar fanzone, give it a rest.....it's boring the living hell out of some people I am sorry you feel that way. The same way some people might be bored by what we say (especially me) there are others bored with the continuos anti-QR ranting. I suggest taking 4HP's advice, and unless I am personna-non-gratta by the moderators or the Admin I will not simply pack my bags and leave. |
Qatar Airways CEO to leave the airline.......yeah, no wonder. He's probably bored to tears having read all this continual drivel that appears here about his company. You Qatar fanzone, give it a rest.....it's boring the living hell out of some people Seems simple, if you don't want to read about QR then don't click on any threads that have 'Qatar Airways' or 'QR' as part of the title for the thread. I doubt that any CEO would be disappointed when his company is the topic of any healthy debate! MG |
Akbar Al Baker
I agree with your comments MT Qatar. Please check your e-mail.
I just wish that said gentleman was a little more approachable on certain issues which would encourage and promote better crew and staff morale. I am still a firm believer that a little more in the way of man management skills and a sharper and dynamic HR machine would save the Company more in the long run, through a lesser staff turnover and re-recruiting and re-training costs. I know it's old hat, but surely commercial results that we all go on about so much would be even better in the long run if these basic factors of employee welfare were improved. Perhaps in that respect, a new man at the top MAY be a good thing?? |

Dear 4HP
I have sent you a private message. Could you please get back to me? Thanks. Jennie Dear Emirates A340-500, I have sent you a personal message. Could you please get back to me with a reply at your convenience? many thanks. By the way, what's wrong with having a little healthy debate. Isn't it perfectly allowable for A340-500 to express his opinions? I don't really get the reference to flame throwing. If that is the case, then 70% of the posts here would fall into that category. I apologise in advance if my comments have upset anyone. They are not intended to do so. Please PM me should you feel necessary. Jennie |
guys have any of u punks ever worked for QR,I don't think so,see I have and the only reason AAB uses this bullying style of "management" is because he knows he has crew who come from poor areas of the east with high unemployment and he knows that these people really need any kind of job they can get.He tries to bully the Euro crew and he still does not understand why they all leave.AAB is an arrogant rude man who is totally unapproachable=terrible management. The only reason QR is still afloat is because SH.AlThani pumps a lot of green into the place.Morale is rock bottom and have u ever seen a crew member smiling onboard???NO.Another reason QR is still around is,this is also true, the management uses a lot of QR "cabin crew" as prostitutes for their parties.Any excuse to get a residence permit.
