Pilot Shortage Fixed By October?!

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/artic...pilot-shortage

According to Timbo, we’ll be alright from October, our new cadets will be here to save the day. Wonder why our rosters still aren’t published?! Silence from the Very Naughty Boy and the bouncy castle. Can’t wait for the excuses.. :D

Xulu 18th Sep 2018 16:22

128:15 scheduled block hours in 31 days in my Oct roster.

or

120:20 in 30 days.

or

105:35 in 28 days.

However you want to look at it - take your pick.

There’s no sentiment, no agenda here; these are the numbers.

This is how they’ve solved our pilot shortage.

glofish 18th Sep 2018 17:37

Don't we just have to love the reigning bs at this company. Only minutes after the publication of the new rosters we can read on the mailgroup from guys who want US for AUS and the next mailer would like a AUS for his US..... Myself i bid for anything north and northwest, to end up with only south and southeast/down under ..... Consistently though no swap is possible due to roster compression, cr@p rules and other manual insertions who feel like having taken away the m and the u.
It is really and sincerely pathetic.

would be be interesting to know the total duty hours??

Townie 18th Sep 2018 21:39

99 hours and only 9 days off on the 380. Swapping impossible so far, with ULR restrictions, productivity and days off limits.

As a techno idiot, it took me about 5 minutes to figure out how to display the detailed report to see the total hours. Now know the reason why they don't email us anymore. Far too handy a reference as to what you are really doing. I knew BTs nonsense about the email server being stressed was BS. After, all they manage to send their company updates in two formats to the entire group DAILY.

Use the rules to your advantage SKF.

...and so the disease and cancer continue to spread within the organization. The ship is sinking yet the band play's merrily on.

Alloy 19th Sep 2018 08:01

To repeatedly accept 128+ hours looks to me like assisted suicide.

SOPS 19th Sep 2018 08:04

Funny Alloy, I was just about to say the same thing.

XULU,

Are you EK or somewhere else in the Gulf?

Global_Global 19th Sep 2018 12:03

Come guys... Nothing wrong... Hush hush... It is all sorted... Really, we say so therefore it is...No shortages here... Nothing illegal... All is well...

gtaflyer 19th Sep 2018 12:07

You guys must have been born year of the ostrich

......head in the sands.

Ghost_Rider737 19th Sep 2018 19:45

I always thought that the A380 pilots flew a more “manageable” roster ....... but 99 hours is insane.

Starbear 19th Sep 2018 20:07

As a current industry employee and regular fare paying EK passenger in J and Y class, this is now seriously worrying me. Tell me who I should write to at least make them aware of the poison that now infects this company (CX no different)

i don’t mean GCA or standard EK feedback or even sir Tim who I am forever forced to listen to ad nauseum in between ICE movies.
Where is that BBC fatigue reporter now?

I know nothing of Emirates so can't comment on the specifics but they are not the only airline that is under crewed worldwide. Quite a few employers are really starting to hurt.

I can't help but wonder if various CEOs worldwide are waiting for an economic downturn and the end of the cycle to arrive. We are in the longest bull market there has ever been. There is a downturn coming and we are long past due. I feel almost certain that these CEOs have decided it's only a matter of time before one or two big airlines, who are already shaky financially, are going to fall over. If there is, there will be a flood of experienced pilots out on the street and this problem will be solved. Let's say two more Air Berlin go to the wall.

safelife 21st Sep 2018 09:18

How many pilots from Air Berlin joined Emirates?
I'm aware of four. Out of 1600...

Australopithecus 21st Sep 2018 13:49

There has always been something to relieve an incipient shortage: 9/11, plagues, GFC, etc. Now though, after a decade of neglect and constant public attacks on pilot pay/conditions by executives, the numbers of students is well below the projected replacement + growth curve.

An untimely downturn might release a few thousand pilots back into the wild, but the global appetite could absorb them all in a few months. That then sets the stage for even more supply tension after any recovery.

There seem to be only two major international airlines in the world that cling to the defunct model of “two pilots and a grub under every rock in the garden.

My ppl/multi/ifr/cpl cost circa $5,500 in 1970-1972. First job paid $18k . make that now in two weeks. Today’s cadet student needs to spend around $150K for the same result. Reckon they’ll be paying a million a month in 2060 or have

on edit: not trying to big note myself, merely pointing out that the value proposition for new pilots does not seem to be what it once was. And yet some managers bemoan shortages on one hand while making the job less attractive on the other.

NotPC 22nd Sep 2018 14:58

Safelife, same question ref Monarch pilots? Not many !!
