hey guy i need your input on weather to go for it or just shut it down
ok so im 45 years old kuwaiti, been thinking of going to flying school probably the qatar aeronautical college to become a commercial pilot and apply for a job at qatar airway,

so assuming flying school will take around two years to finsh that put me at 47 with no type rated licence and who knows how many hrs on small airplane, ive been told that qatari comes 1st and then the citizen of the gulf region and thats it also heard that they can take type rated pilot with at least 500 hrs with no more that 50 years old at the time of applying, what are my chances ?

Really sorry to say but I think you are too old.
You are hanging your hat on Qatar, what happens if you don't get into Qatar? You will really struggle to find a job at 47+ with no experience.
The second part of the no is that at 47 learning is HARD.

Hi. I think you're over the age limit. I wouldn't go into the aviation business at your age. If you have a passion for flying for the amount you will spend at Qatar Aviation college you can buy yourself a Business Class ticket to the United States and get your licenses there. Just get your PPL and enjoy flying as a hobby. Flying as a job is nice no doubt but there are days that you'll wish you were doing something else, especially the way the roster run at most middle East airlines. Like I side do it as a hobby and get your fix that way. Not everything you have a passion for has to be your career.

​​​​Get a PPL and maybe an IR or ME in Europe or the US and once or twice a year you can take yourself a few weeks holiday and enjoy some flying.
That will satisfy the bug

I know of a number of guys who suddenly realised at 38-50 years old that they wanted to be pilots. And I watched everyone single one of them fail at making it a career. Many couldn't achieve the PPL.

It's common for men your age to suddenly feel like there are things they have wish they had done when they were younger suddenly decide to try it out. Some buy a sports car others chase 20 year old models others go bungee jumping etc.

I don't think it's wrong to have these feelings or to go after them but I would also advise to go slowly and make sure that your sure you can do it. So talk to a flying school in Europe or America. Plan some time off from work to do PPL ground School and get some flying hours. See if you like it, if you can handle it. If you have an established job don't just leave it overnight. And tread carefully. Even if you get your licenses Airlines are VERY VERY VERY hesitant to hire people your age as second officers.

Also understand that major airlines are not the only path to a flying career. It could be that corporate operators, turboprop companies and freight carriers would actually prefer an older guy who wasn't going to run off to the airlines.

You are not too old to become a Commercial pilot, even at 50 years of age.

In my outfit we have seen many older guys joining in the last couple of years. It is all about money nowadays. You have enough of it? Got for it. You don't? Forget about it as today's industry couldn't care less about your attitude, skills, knowledge or will to succeed.

GO for it, but not for Qatar airways. Do it the hard way, go to USA Get all your licences and get into Corporate aviation.
As far as I know, Qatar hours only will be useful if you fly qataries airplanes...which only belongs to qatar airways, so if that doesnt work out you lose all your investment and effort.

To be honest, starting at 45 means you will be 48 by the time you complete the basics and will have zero experience. To an airline this represents a training "risk" as your conversion and line training will almost certainly take longer. Whilst advancing years may help with CRM issues, they can also be an obstacle to learning and over the years airlines have developed policies to take the "most likely to succeed in the shortest time" approach. While some airlines are happy to have career FOs, and indeed some senior FOs at companies like BA earn more than Captains, this is not the case with gulf carriers. FO on business jet may be an option, but for your peace of mind I would forget the mainstream carriers.

If a failure of finding a job won't put you in economical problems, I would go for it. If you rely on finding a job for your future, I wouldn't.

You are never too old to follow a passion in life. So if flying is what you want to go I can only advise to go for it. The only thing after is to find a suitable company. And for that you have to try and open all options I wouldn't just focus on one.
