Qatar and non-typed pilots

What's the scene at Qatar with regards to non Airbus typed pilots applying who have significant glass cockpit time on modern turboprops?......anyone

Qatar Pilots

Hi Shag-tastic,

A non - starter, I have to say. There is a real abundance of busdrivers on the market just now. QR are keen to employ experienced pilots.....although they may have difficulties in finding takers!!

But recent agebda has been to minimise the need to re train on type.

Maybe woth giving a call though, just to confirm.

Sorry

Shagtastic 18th Jul 2002 19:00

A300Man...

I think your comment re shortage of takers might be interesting.

But as you say there are lots of Airbus UB40 pilots out there so who knows eh.

:p

MTQatar 18th Jul 2002 23:49

A300Man is correct you have to be type rated in the A300-600R/A310 or A319/A320/A321 or the A330 to be considered for an interview.

although they may have difficulties in finding takers!!
Actually it is quite the opposite. There have been many to apply and the turnaround time for an application takes several months because of the amounts of CV's pouring in. The Interview slots are all full for this month and for most of the time during the past 9 months.

QR used to have difficulty getting Flight Crew Pre-Sept. 11 but after the tragic attacks and the many lay-offs and bankruptcies there are many Airbus type-rated pilots available in the market.

MTQ

Hi foxtrott

Thanks for info.
How is live down there in the sand? Would you recommend to join? What is rostering, salary like? How many days leave per year?

I am currently rideing an A330-200 with Mixed Fleet Flying experience with A319/20/21 some 2 years ago and 3500 hours. What do you think, any chance?

Many questions, I know. But I think it's worth looking at the facts.

Does anybody know if you join the A320 fleet as a Capt. how do you progress onto the A330. Is it by seniority or is the 330 mainly preserved for national (i.e. local) pilots? Also, are there salary increments at Qatar Airways and what does the company provide in terms of a pension or provident fund?

Thanks in advance

The Count

hi again what-goes-up
the life out here is pretty good, what i mean is it is a slow relaxed kind of life. you get 45 days of a year with 1 annual free leave ticket and for the rest the usual discounted stuff.rostering is ok, based on monthly schedule and the guys at rostering are a helpful bunch.i am not sure what a F/O takes home but i will ask around and let you know,i guess about 20-21000 riyals or so[ not to sure]. a good airline for someone of your experience as they even give upgrades to f/o with your kind hours.a good place if you are married and have kids, you get a lot of time with them, good schools and all.
regards and bye for now,
foxtrot
hi count
upgrade to A330 is based on seniority and has nothing to with nationality or that sort of thing.
see you

what_goes_up 7th Aug 2002 09:29

Hi Foxtrot

Thak you very much for the infos. I do highly appreciate. Sounds really interesting and I should defenitely give it a try! BTW are they still hireing?

See you

A300Man 7th Aug 2002 11:40

Yes, still hiring.

A batch of around 15 new pilots (Brazilian, Italian, Canadian, Moroccan, French, Argentinian) are all in the midst of training.

More new aircraft on the way this and next month (A300's). Company is desperate for experienced on type.

Give it a try, but be prepared for the fairly lengthy and agonising recruitment process. You will need to keep on top of them.

HR dept is overly stretched right now due to the rapid expansion.

A300Man
Thank you very much for the info as well. I just found a fax number today and sent them my CV.
How do you like it being there?

Count von Altibar 8th Aug 2002 01:13

Thanks for the info foxtrot. What about a pension or fund? Is it in place? And is the housing of a good standard in Doha?
