IRAN closes airspace to US and KSA
Published on: September 6, 2017
Iran has banned US aircraft – including commercial airlines – from entering its airspace, Iranian FARS news agency reports quoting Commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmayeeli. All US aircraft flying above Iran, will be met with a warning from the Islamic Republic’s air defense base. |
What do you think may be the implications?
Does Saudia routes though it? Other KSA led coalition countries involved in Yemen are mentioned, but no specifics about UAE. |
Iran makes too much money off UAE aircraft to close its airspace.

Many of EKs north american flights are code shares with Jet Blue ( A US carrier).
It will force Fedex and UPS to reroute some of their flights. |
Saudi banned their airlines from flying into Iranian airspace over a year ago, with the exception of Hajj movements. As the Hajj return movement just started, i doubt that the Iranians will enforce this ban.

The aircraft they seem to be worried about, don't request permission to enter the airspace.

US made and registered aircraft are NOT banned to overfly Iran airspace.
