Where to live around gatwick

Gents,
I know this is the middle east forum but considering that Lots of colleagues are from the uk i thought i could receive very good info here.
Willing to move to work in LGW where could be a nice village or area where to rent a two beds flat spending around 1000/1200 pounds.
Thanks in advance

Consider Horley.

brakedwell 6th Aug 2017 17:54

Charlwood. Half Moon is a good pub!

Monarch Man 6th Aug 2017 18:09

Redhill is ok in parts, Brighton if you are into "alternative" practices or perhaps further away, Chichester is nice in parts as is Guildford, depends on your personal proclivities I guess.

Rusper is quite charming. Small cottages come up for rent on occasion. Ask at the pub. They hooked me up with a lovely place on the grounds of the oldest manor home in Sussex.

Horsham is a nice little market town very close to LGW, Southwater is part of it just to the South and nice too.
If you're looking a little bit further Cuckfield is nice.
Haywards Heath is OK too, you have Brighton a bit further
It all depends what you're looking for really and how far you are willing to drive to Gatwick...

Yorkshire_Pudding 7th Aug 2017 01:02

£950+, 2 bed flat, Crawley, Redhill and Horley. Rough but close to the Job centre when you're uk airline job vanishes. Horsham is probably worth the extra cash.

£1500+ some nice villages, Charlwood probably being closest.

All depends what you want. A crash pad or a place to call home?

It will be me and my wife. We wouldnt mind too far from london as well because our son is moving there in september at the university.
We are looking for a nice village. Cottage or flat.
Thanks for all suggestions.
I knew it was the right forum to ask :-)

Would suggest proximity to railway station could be beneficial?

parabellum 7th Aug 2017 02:09

Smallfield, five minutes from Horley, ten from staff car park. Nothing special but very convenient to railway and motorway in addition to airport.

howard meredith 7th Aug 2017 05:58

Have a look at Dorking - 25 mins Lgw nice market town good connections to London etc.

gatbusdriver 7th Aug 2017 08:01

Horley is convenient. Mainline station for London. 10-15 minute cycle to work with shower facilities either at work or in terminal.

fantom 7th Aug 2017 09:25

I have lived in three houses in Horley (Langshott) and can tell you it's a perfect place to live for LGW. Do you really want to be going to Brighton or Dorking after a nite-flite?

Avenger 7th Aug 2017 10:30

I agree, Horley is a good option, trains to London and village type feel. Taxi to airport £5 or bus £2.30. Rents are quite high these days, realistically 1200/1500 a month for 2 beds.

Definitely Horley. Close to the airport but surprisingly unaffected by noise. Good bus service to the airport, or train or an easy cycle via the Crescent and then the little path that runs alongside the railway line. Horley also has a good rail service to and from London overnight or it's the service to/from Gatwick then a cab.
And it's got a big Waitrose.............

Nightstop 7th Aug 2017 11:12

I rented in Horley and found my location blighted by APU/ engine noise, being upwind of the airport. Horsham is expanding rapidly, Wickhurst Green is very popular with crew. Also Kilnwood Vale, Horsham is nice but lacking in facilities at the moment..it's cheaper partly as a result of that and it's close proximity to Crawley. A new Horsham development of 2,500 new homes alongside the A264 has just been approved. So, overall I'd say Horsham is the place to settle.

Billingshurst, just a couple of stations down the line is worth considering. Some great pubs in the vicinity.

Nightstop 7th Aug 2017 12:13

I don't know Billingshurst but it sounds great! As for Smallfield, it's main street is blighted by the most annoying sleeping policemen with fat stomachs. Rusper has a great pub or two but suffers again from aircraft noise. The main railway line branches off from Crawley through Faygate and beyond, so service is infrequent..especially during the regular industrial action. The South Croydon railway to Brighton via LGW though is frequent. Buses in the Horsham/Crawley/Redhill area are excellent, frequent and fairly cheap with good LGW connections or direct to.

So not Purley? or Purley Way? Or even the beautiful town of Croydon?

I'd head east past East Grinstead; towards Crowborough in Ashdown Forest!
