Maternity leave for female pilots in EK
 

How is it these days with maternity leave for female pilot in Emirates? Is there still no such thing as maternity leave or has it change the last couple of years?

I think there is something in place, as I flew with a female FO who'd been off on maternity leave previously.

As an aside, I could do with 9 months off, but my wife can't get me pregnant, no matter how hard she tries...

You get an outstanding maternity deal if you're unmarried. Plenty of time off work.

It's not bad . Once pregnant they firvenyou to work in office and then you get 30 days I think after birth ? Met a couple ladies who have had it .

Yeh, you're abslutly right. And that is exactly the case for me. We are both flying:ugh: I don't want the nanny to raise my kid!

I flew with a woman recently who was told that EK has a daycare program if she wanted to transfer to a non-flying position. First I'd heard of it.

I Dont think with EK u will only have 30 days - That is UAE Law


Cabin Crew gets the following:


as soon u announce being pregnant they get a maternity contract. They may offered a office job (depending on the manager, your file, and if there are jobs available)
if u get a job u also get a salary and/or e.g. housing allowance. If not u get nothing.
EK doctors will give a maternity referal, which basically refers u to the doctor of your choice in within the insurance system.
once birth is given EK gives u 145 days from the end of the delivery month.
Form there u follow the local practise to give the kid in nanny hands and hope u will be home every now and than.


that is what CC has and i guess it will be applicable to female pilots as well.

Well they give you this because there is no cost to them.

If CC are out of company accommodation the housing and salary stops immediately.

If they are in company accommodation, salary also stops immediately and they have 2 weeks to vacate their accommodation.

Very generous indeed.

Well you can imagine what would happen if they were to provide guaranteed paid pregnancy as well as paid maternity leave. Of course a flying job is different as you are prevented from performing the job you were hired for. Generous maternity (and paternity for that matter) benefits is available only in countries with well established welfare systems, which the UAE does not have and that should come as no surprise to anyone.

Cabin crew come here with a 1-3 year plan. I don't see why the company should have to pay for them getting pregnant. Pilots make a bigger commitment (or at least used to) and should have more options, as well as long serving cabin crew.

You don't see why the company should have a real plan for maternity ?
Well that's because for most women, it's only natural to have babies.
And when you employ such large number of them, it should come as no surprise they may one day be pregnant.

Also quite an assumption that most come here only with a 2-3 years plan.
I know many who have been here longer than about half the pilot population at EK.

Finally if you don't really have much in place in this area, how do you reasonably expect CC to become long serving staffs ( unless you are a man ).

Not sure when you were born but I m pretty sure it was from a woman who hopefully didn't need to leave the country and work she was employed in.

Anyway. We have both left so I was just passing on some info.

I think you are choosing to misunderstand me. I said that I believe that longer serving cc should get the benefits and it is my understanding that they do if they are been with the company for more than three years and there is another suitable ground job for them.

BUT again, it can't be the case where anyone can just rock up and then a year later announce their pregnancy. That would attract people from lesser blessed countries to come for the wrong reasons.
