EK BENEFITS

Are the Housing and School Allowances still provided for new joiners?

I cannot find them on the list of benefits.

JAYTO 11th Jan 2017 03:31

the information is located in the FAQ section

AlanPardew 11th Jan 2017 05:17

Housing allowance no, you have to live where they put you.
Education allowance yes, but you'll still be broke after paying the amount you have to.
And yet they still come....

The Turtle 11th Jan 2017 06:12

I would think that any new joiner must give serious consideration to the possibility that the housing "allowance" may be a thing of the past...

EK provided accommodation only.....

mortgage? maybe, but the days of renting to augment income is probably over

William73 11th Jan 2017 06:32

Thank you Fellows Aviators...

Few questions after reading the FAQ for benefits:

1/ What are the locations for company accommodations ?

2/ Can they ask you to change the location without your consent ?

3/ Is the Starter Package ( 45k ) plus the SUPP. allowances ( 3.3K ) still valid, if you have only the company accommodations "option"? ( EK site still shows the option of opting for your own accommodations )

4/ Is the medical coverage provided limited to EK clinic and/or as per their list of hospitals/clinics ?

5/ Staff travel for our children says NO upgrade if under 13 years old, is that from ECON to BUSINESS or children under 13 are entitled to only economy?

6/ Are family members entitled to a maximum of 2 ID 90 per year only?

7/ Is the Provident Fund guaranteed ?

8/ Is the End Of Service paid in once or per installments ?

Many thanks in advance for your answers.

Regards.

1/ You will probably end up in ELC.....also known as Meydan South

2/ hahahah They dont ask. They just do.

3/ Not sure sorry.

4/ You can make legitimate claims. They will decide if you get paid back or not.

5/ Your kids do not upgrade... For FO no traveling in Business and for Captain no traveling in First

6/ no

7/ hahahah again.... Yes, like everything else here is "guaranteed"

8/ Dont know, sorry.

1). Most likely Meydan, but can be absolutely anywhere. Unfortunately history shows families spent 18 months in the red light district in Deira. Hopefully won't happen again but with the current trends who knows.

2). Yes they can move you at short notice without any consideration for your circumstances. Happened to me.

3). Still advertised that way.

4). You can use nominated outside clinics but you may have to fight for certain coverage. Depends on their interpretation of the the treatment and whether it falls under the plan.

5). No upgrade for kids under 13.

6). Not sure of recent policy changes on staff travel so can't help. Immediate family used to be okay with ID90s.

7). YOUR contributions to the provident fund should be untouchable. That's why they are banked in the Isle of Man and subject to Manx law. As long as Manx law is still influenced by its near neighbour your own contributions should be fine. Maybe the Sheikh will build a big resort off the coast of Port Erin though and invest $$$$$ to boost their economy in which case I guess things would change a little. Not likely though 😉

8). End of service is not paid at all if the provident contributions exceed the end of service benefit. The benefit would be paid in full minus any debts you owe in Dubai. The provident fund can be collected in cash on your last day or wired to an offshore account which might be a bit safer as long as you trust the accounts dept to send the money after you've left. Worked fine for me.

ULTIMATELY, accept it for what it is and don't be naive to the fact that you'll be moving to society that is yet to develop (its only 50 or so years old)... If you have even the slightest doubts based on the info provided on this forum don't make the jump based on the chance it 'might' not be the way it's described here. It is what it is.

Many thanks again.

Valuable infos.

Good luck.

6- Yes. Parents, siblings, and parents in law max 2 id90 per year.

Emma Royds 13th Jan 2017 19:31

You can have up to six sectors per ticket for 'near relatives' but there are some restrictions and you will not get away with three return tickets to/from DXB from the same airport (for example).

Travel benefits after leaving....

There is a bit of confusion about the travel benefits you get after leaving. Can anybody clarify the difference when leaving;
After +10 years but less than 50 years old (or more then 10y prior retirement age).
After +15 years and also more than 10 years before retirement.
And +10/+15 but within 10 years of retirement.

Thanks.

Desertweasel 14th Jan 2017 10:42

can only speak for 15 and within 10 of 60, which equates to 2 firms and 2 standbys at your old F/J or Y/J benefit though you do pay the tax on these.
After reaching 60 your OAL benefits kick in along with ID90s etc

VLS with ice 14th Jan 2017 10:52

Found some more info in staff travel manual. More than 10 years of service and less than 50y old, you get zip. As I understand, with more than 15 years of service, regardless of age you get similar benefits as with the +10 years service and within 10 years of retirement. In short, if you join when you're less than 35 you're in a disadvantage if you leave between 10 and 15 years of service.

Talparc 14th Jan 2017 13:57

I suggest not to count on the tickets too much as they might change the policy including total removal within a second.

fatbus 14th Jan 2017 17:26

Don't be so paranoid

pumpkin 15th Jan 2017 01:53

"YOUR contributions to Provident fund untouchable".. seems to me if the Provident fund is held offshore and subject to the laws of the Isle of Man, then their contributions should be protected by the laws of the Isle of Man too.

Trader 15th Jan 2017 07:37

Then how do they get a hold of that 'offshore' cash when they fire someone and keep the co. portion of the provident?

I don't know- have they done that before- and if so how long had the affected individual been employed?

Mach.888 16th Jan 2017 09:30

Ha ha ha,
You guys are suppose to be intelligent.
Does someone actually think that they don't control the money.
ALL the money!
When you resigne / get fired THEY will give you a check containing the provident fond.
Not someone from Isle of Man.

nolimitholdem 16th Jan 2017 12:10

Nope. I received a wire transfer from Isle of Man. How much leeway EK had to block that transfer, I do not know. But I certainly didn't receive a cheque from some EK manager.
