Given that I've heard lots of talk of between 40-60 Captains already leaving or in the process of leaving EK to KAL, this doesn't come as a surprise.

Why would you not target an airline where the highly experienced, type rated, well trained Captains are being worked to death...give them a reasonable roster, a home basing, and a reasonable salary, and it's easy pickings.

Meanwhile, EK is busy replacing its most experienced crew with first officers and captains whose experience is limited to say the least. The average experience level in both seats in the EK cockpit has plunged in the last year or so.

only 1 day? come on...They should know most EK slaves have max. 8 to 9 days off a month.
Kal is very high on a lot of 777 skippers joblist but getting time off to do roadshows or an interview is a major issue. Please take note.

which agency is this? KAL does not recruit directly

fatbus 2nd Sep 2016 11:04

A few years ago the rumours were @ 140 EK pilots interviewing , but that was only a rumour .

go46ball 2nd Sep 2016 12:53

Agency is TAS Total Aviation Services.

fatbus 2nd Sep 2016 14:35

CCL and Rishworth

nolimitholdem 3rd Sep 2016 09:00

KAL recruits through about seven different agencies such as Rishworth and CCL, but TAS (Total Aviation Services) is actually owned by KAL. The contract is the same terms whomever you go through anyway. Not always the case with all contract jobs, sometimes different agencies have slightly different packages, sometimes quite different. But that's what I've been told by one of the TAS recruiting chiefs, I haven't bothered to ty and procure all the different contracts to check.

Probably the best commuting job out there. Not the highest-paying, but the best-organized and most stable.

If you think it's difficult to get one day off for a roadshow, try getting 5-7 in a row for the selection. It's a problem.

The should rent the 777 sim here at DSO for assessments. Go to Seoul for medical. I'm stuck for time to go through it all.

bianchi 6th Sep 2016 16:29

Recently completed the 4 day screening process in Seoul with KAL , failed my medicals to every bodies surprise including myself. ( btw I was nr 4 of 4 that I know that did the screening with Korean that failed there astronaut medical check ). I have found the actual screening process to be very straight forward and pleasant ................. ( apart from there ridiculous medical ). Good luck to all attending , I think its a nice set-up to work for.

JNPS 6th Sep 2016 18:10

Without disclosing personal info, can you provide any examples of the reasons for the medical failures? I.e. BMI, vision or underlying physiological issues. What was the age range of the 4 pilots?
Thanks.

ThunderLizard 8th Sep 2016 08:43

If you really want to go to Korea, China, etc you should pay to do medical prep the same way you pay for sim prep. Get an EKG and blood draw. If something is out of limits, do some googling -maybe a change to your diet or exercise routine could bring it back in line. Also hit an eye doc and ENT to practice the vision and balance tests Asian airline medicals contain -you can practice those beforehand, just like sim prep.

The Turtle 9th Sep 2016 14:10

I attended the roadshow today, not surprised the room was full (and not full of young ones, either....mostly senior Captains)

Impressive example rosters, reverse basing? wow. And impressive marketing

Shocking what EK has done to our schedules.....I shake my head in how EK has lost it.

I just wish Korean would increase the package a wee bit

I'm left with the notion that to get my life back, I must give up quite a few schekels

JAYTO 9th Sep 2016 14:36

You only end up giving those schekels back one way or the other. Go for it. Be happy and dont look back. Cant wait for my turn.

Turtle remember one thing...you can't spend those extra shekels when you are dead.

ThunderLizard 10th Sep 2016 05:29

Monthly block of days off

9+2=11 consecutive off + travel days every month.
Biz class firm ticket to/from every month.

That seems the big draw for KAL. Why don't the Gulf airlines just offer similar and plug the drain? Seems easier than constantly having to recruit and train new guys.

Cantbebothered 10th Sep 2016 07:34

Saw quite a few very senior captains post on their Facebook pictures of themselves at the KAL interviews. Very surprised at some though as they used to be EK loyalists.

fatbus 10th Sep 2016 11:15

No need to hide anything and it's time to move on.
Good question as to why EK not do the same and stop the brain drain .

Payscale 10th Sep 2016 12:41

Couldn't go. How does it look financially and tax wise?
