Victory for Gulf airlines as US government ends Open Skies row with no further action | The National

Well I have to say that the 4 flights I've done to IAD on the 380 have been over 95% load factor; and looking at the clientele upstairs in 1st they all seem to be either presidents of strange African nations or high yield UN bods...

Guess it's a bit of a cash cow!

Guys do not believe everything written in the paper!
The game is still on!

Clark and Sheikh Ahmed would be crowing about this IF it were really true. Until a definitive answer comes out, I would err on the side of caution. From a distance, things are clearly not as rosy as EK would like to make out....

Talparc 29th Jul 2016 10:33

777boy:

totally right, its just a kind of propaganda to make things looking more rosy.
In reality it does not look too good for them with all the stuff against them still in the pipeline

What a difference a day makes.

As usual, it does seem EK has trouble playing nice on a level playing field...

ITF aviation blog » Emirates dismisses 3 workers due to closure of branch offices (a news story from Kohkuren, Japan)

This is from the Barbie Pilot thread but deserves its own, really. Three employees try to join a union and EK goes ballistic lol.

It must suck to have to abide by, y'know, laws and such when you get outside the UAE.

EK and unfair dismissal?! I'm SHOCKED! Shocked, I tell you...

May be UAE told USA, our brothers in Dubai unnecessarily ordered too many planes without any planning trusting a great management, which randomly sending planes all over the world without any clue. Dubai hired Mueller, so bare with us while we clean up this mess.

Also, I am sure code share loophole will be plugged in Fly America act.

The ME3 can only hope for Hillary to win. The Donald must be their worst nightmare, because he will listen to his great American airlines!

donpizmeov 30th Jul 2016 07:29

His kids and wife fly EK. They won't be happy :)

nolimitholdem 30th Jul 2016 12:13

Ah well, guess they'll just have to settle for Air Force 1, or failing that their own private B757. I'm pretty sure they can still get Walking Jonny on either, they might just have to do without that annoying British voice all over ICE...

harry the cod 30th Jul 2016 14:23

What other Nationality would you recommend then Nonlimit? Indian, American or perhaps 'yes mam sir' would suffice. Good old bit of Aussie slang goes down a treat as does some guttural South African.

Spoilt for choice when you think about it.......:roll eyes:

FlightGlobal: US govt denies that Gulf subsidies talks have ended
7/26/16
Ghim-Lay Yeo

The US government says talks with the United Arab Emirates and Qatar on alleged subsidies to three Gulf carriers are still ongoing, refuting a recent Abu Dhabi media report stating that US officials plan no further action.

A State Department spokesperson tells FlightGlobal that the headline of a story published today in Abu Dhabi-based newspaper The National is "wholly incorrect".

"The State Department’s discussions with carriers are ongoing," she adds.

The newspaper report had stated that the US government had ended talks over the issue with no plans for further action.

US officials met with their UAE counterparts on 18 July, followed by similar talks with Qatari officials on 25 July. Both rounds of talks were described as "constructive informal technical discussions" on the respective bilateral civil aviation relationship.

"The US government takes seriously the concerns raised by some of our airlines. We have decided to address these concerns through informal, technical discussions that are ongoing," adds the State Department spokesperson.

The allegations of subsidies benefiting three Gulf carriers - Emirates, Etihad Airways and Qatar Airways - have led to a protracted and heated dispute that has divided the airline industry.

Delta Air Lines, American Airlines and United Airlines accuse the Gulf carriers of receiving $42 billion of state subsidies from the UAE and Qatar. The US carriers, backed by some labour groups, want the US government to reconsider open-skies deals with the two Gulf nations.

All of them have been bankrupt at some stage, and the service is still usually cr@ppy...
