EK - Additional Medical Insurance for wife
 

Hi fellas,

My Mrs is pregnant with twins. The medical benifits is pretty vague for multiple births. The doc we are seeing seems to think the 25/35k limit on the maternity portion increases with multiple births. Just 'Asked an expert' still awaiting an answer.

However, I was wondering if you have any recommendations on a short term medical policy for my wife & twins if any complications arise, eg) premature and requiring NICU. Apparently 30000AED/day for twins :eek: Again the doc seems to think EK insurance will cover it, but i've heard stories through the grapevine where this is not the case.

Aetna is out as im not a member with APC. So is Baymac, called and thats a no go too.

*oh can anyone confirm EK medical won't cover the first 2 weeks of a newborns life?*

I stand to be corrected ( and I hope I am wrong), but I think most policies will have at least a 9 month waiting period to cover pregnancies. But as I say, I really hope that I am proved wrong.

The only thing I can say is if you are from the UK (NHS) or Australia ( Medicare Public System ), is send your wife home now so she can get some first world help with no cost. Having said that, having just got back into the Medicare system in Australia, if you have been out of Australia for a while, even if you are Australian is very complicated.

I'll have to consider that SOPS, both are an option.

If you have been out of the UK for over three years you aren't entitled to NHS treatment. I think you have to be back for a year but stand to be corrected.

Been there done that: Twins were in NICU and company did cover nearly all of our costs-which were substantial. Also there is an option (we took it) to pay around 5000AED that covers access to the NICU at the 'Latifa' hospital on Oud Metha Rd, which has the highest level of NICU available in the region (or did in 2011). To do it you also have to see one of the OB's there as well as whomever you are seeing now. We ended up at City (excellent) but spent the 5k as a 'just in case' back up to have access to the highest level NICU if needed. Good Luck-twins are awesome-:)

Newborns are covered since date of birth (CAT A medical).
