Medicals for Emirates/Qatar

Putting my app in with both, but worried about my color vision deficiency. I did the Eva Air interview, was offered the job, but failed the medical because of the color vision test. I haven't failed any of my FAA Class 1 medicals. I don't want to waste my time if I can't pas the medical or get a waiver for it. Other than this, I'm healthier than most of the pilots.

For what I know in Emirates the medical is part of the selection and is taken during the days of the interview.
In Qatar is different, once you start working there you do the medical, if you do not pass it, you go back home... It is done during the first two months, while you still are having classes and dealing with the burocracy.

in Saudi Arabia they work with the faa rules, and the faa license I believe is accepted... So no need for conversion. Just a thought, I am not sure about it.

This may be an issue for you.

At the EK medical (last day if you pass everything), you do a color test at the EK in-house doctors, then they send you to an external eye clinic and its done in more depth again. It is probably worth emailing EK and getting in contact with a UAE doctor, as I can tell you the EK medical is very very extensive. I can give you the contact information for the external eye clinic if you like. Will probably be easier to ask them directly then go through EK. The entire medical took me about 8 hours to complete....

This is no longer true, you have to do the exams to get a licence and you always had to do the medical, both for the licence and the company.
